Just a thought but contractor has got my fields mapped in the gps on his Bateman, does that mean he could spray in the dark without the need to see where he was going now?
Wether he would want or be willing to is another matter.
That said his sprayer looks to be equipped with some pretty hefty LED’s so visibility shouldn’t be a problem anyway

Seen the contract farmers spray chap working at night here... Lit up like a combine!

Pasutre master from memory is 2,4D and MCPA, a 3/4 rate dose should be ample for small weeds but be aware it won't hurt chickweed at all. Add in 05-1L of hurler/hatchet (check max dose on new leys I can't remember what it is) and you will get virtually everything out of a new ley with that. The only weakness is on speedwells for which you needed bromoxynil but revoked now I suspect.

Aim to go when the weeds are small. The trick is to to get the weeds to fold up so the new ley takes up the space they would otherwise be growing in. You want to spray from the 2-3 leaf stage on wards ideally. Many of the new ley photos I see on TFF are of a ley full of weeds that has been left too late.

I want to tank mix Hi Load Fluroxypyr and MCPA . It's only a small area and I have those . Is it not half rate for tank mix . Will check with the suppliers today but what do you think
Hi Load is 0.45 full rate

Check the maximum label dose of your hi load on new leys, it may be reduced from the maximum 0.45L.

Check your MCPA is actually legal for using on new leys mind. Not all products are, it's a weird label thing.

0.45L of starane hi load is pretty stiff, you won't need this for modest weeds from seed, 0.3 or 0.35 will be ample. Half to 3/4 rate MCPA will be fine as well. You will get most things with a mix like this. Even moderately resistant weeds will be slowed up and the new ley will overtake them.

Would the mcpa weeken the effectiveness against docks , tend to curl up faster with that tank mix

You will curl weeds up very fast spraying anything on a day like today because they lose water very very fast. I have used polo and hatchet type mixes for years more times than I can count and never had an issue on new leys. If you have some established docks from rootmass, then in the old days you could do half rate pastor which definitely would get them but it's not cleared on new leys any longer and hasn't been for some time.

If you use straight starane on a new ley you won't touch things like nettles, thistles or the like. Fluroxypyr is a weird chemical that only works on a select number of weeds. If all you have is docks and chickweed though, then it will do fine.

Been looking around and gone for Dingo, as that's what was recommended to me. Active ingredients seem to be same as leystar and it's from the same company, which begs the question why do they produce both?!

Will spray in the evening to hope to save some clover. Pity as a lot have just popped their heads up in the last week.
