Fertan is good stuff but you cant paint striaght on it after needs washing off which might be an issue on joints cause you dont want to seal in any mositure when you paint after.

If you don't want to paint over, Dinitrol is reckoned to be good, and easier to apply than Waxoyl. Not cheap though.

But both need to be applied when the substrate is warm, so the material flows into the cracks.

Cheapest option is to spray on old engine oil!

What paint do you use over it?

Bonda Rust Primer, which ive found brilliant. Pleasure to apply but does take some time to mature properly! Normally spray without or very little thinners, two coats, one in the morning followed by another in the afternoon so its keyed. Following day I then spray top coat.

I've had good results with KBS Rustseal. A 3 stage process - degrease, phosphate prime, then Rustseal. Very tough stuff, but not cheap.

Have used Loctite SF 7503 on car bodywork.Goes on like"milk" then turns black and can be overpainted. Works well.
