Best time for spraying nettles?

I have a steep paddock that is inundated with nettles. They are all just starting now. I’m starting to think I need to get someone to whizz across the flat bits with a quad sprayer and I can do the steep bits with a napsack. I’d rather not spray off all my herbs in the grass so would be great to know if there’s something I can use that just kills nettles.

2 questions. (1) when should I do it? Now or when I’ve chopped it and it is regrowing
(2) Is there a chemical I can use that’s effective against nettles but doesn’t kill my herbs... (there’s also a brook that runs across the bottom of the paddock).

I’d say the next proper warm spell when they start growing vigorously.

They need to be growing well with warmer overnight temps to translocate the spray to the roots.

Fore front, pastor or grazon and keep spraying might takes 2-3 times to get rid, I’ve sprayed early to try and get grass to take over and will go again if anything comes up.

Lovely thanks. So would you be thinking of spraying now and then again once it’s grown been chopped back and started to regrow?

I only sprayed last week because I want to graze this week and the docks were ideal. But next week temperatures look better fore front will do the best job but is prescription only

Absolute waste of time spraying them now I'm afraid with such a wide variation in temperatures day and night. I can't count the times on both my hands that I have had weed control failures caused by spraying in these exact conditions.

Forefront, big money and still won't work properly in these low temperatures. Nettles need to be growing hard and 12 inches tall, I bet they aren't there yet.

I would wait and let them get on growing, then hit with pastor a bit later.

Any survivors you can spray with the quad and lance. I will tell you which product to use by PM nearer the time.

had a big field full of them last spring , from old keepers pheasant pens some were 2ft+ high year before , thistlex sprayed early may wiped them out till autumn , plan on doing again this spring

Product containing a bit of fluroxypyr (i.e add some cheapo stuff to your thistleX) will hit nettles a bit harder.

Done it many times. Pastor is basically thistleX and fluroxypyr combined.
