I agree about the penning and loading facilities, totally inadequate for the numbers they get, to make it worse the yard men in the store section are useless and have a terrible attitude unless your one of the bigger regular buyers. Puts me right off going and it’s my closest market.
Sounds like Raglan Market.......not my closest Market but close enough to get my trade except for the attitude of the yard men .....unless as you say you are one of the favourites. Have given up buying there as you just can't get loaded.

Except when it's me selling...

It's certainly the case that Drayton has the numbers going through these days, and I am amazed at the distance some of the people are coming, both Buyers and Sellers. Just wish the facilities out the back were bigger sometimes, as it doesn't half get congested!

That is the staff , f**kin useless

How are stores doing now? I've got 30-35 BB X that I'd quite like to shift. I haven't weighed them but I'd say most are 400-450 with a few close to 500. All born spring 2017.

The alternative is to keep and finish these and sell all my 2018 born ones but I get the impression that trade on smaller animals is pretty poor right now.

Trade for both stirks and stores have risen a lot in the last 3 weeks @Cows 'n grass

With the deadweight price on the floor you are better off selling the larger ones store, hard to price from the pics but on last weeks trade your's should make £770/£850 and could even be more than that.

Plenty of buyers at Exeter for rough coated animals like that which can be turned out early.

I would pick out 18/20 of the best ones and haul them upto either Exeter or Sedge next week, ( depending on this weekends trade of course ) that way if you don't like the trade you get you can finish the remainder and wont have put all your eggs in one basket.

These are for sale as well if anyone is interested.

Just feeding up tonight and thinking my stores are really starting to bounce with this warmer weather. I bet they have put a £100 a head on in the last week, just look completely different. Get another week or so and they loose a bit more hair I may risk a few as def need the money

Yes I know the feeling

Spoke to two different local auctions and both advised to leave them till April as the low beef price and shortages in fodder are hitting the younger end of the cattle l. Once grass fever hits they expect them to lift more than in the last few years
I’ve got some to go tomorrow and some next week but they are 20 month and older. They were meant to go last backend but the trade was no good. They have lifted the only worry is there’s a lot coming forward now. April will be good I think maybe even before

Got about 75 I could sell but can't make my mind up whether to step up the grub and get them right for selling or try and find some extra grass keep and run them through to the Autumn. They are 15 to 19 mths now ......I suppose the bank balance will make the final decision but I have a feeling the market may will be saturated end of March / April.

Makes sense, you either pump them full of grub and finish them quick or graze them and probably finish off the grass with some meal/cake Aug/sept. The way its looking the latter might be the better gamble but finding good grass keep isnt easy or cheap, especially in his neck of the woods

Have been offered 63 acres of mowing grass so this will probably be the option rather than try and find grass keep . It's only 3 miles away so it will free up some grazing at home and they can run in the shed for a bit of meal .
