Best time to sell stores

I know that this is a generally dairy section but these are off dairy cows. I have been rearing all my calves for the last 12-15 months and My question is simple when is the best time of the year to sell stores?
Never had tb before so shouldn't be a problem but thinking of saving time and money by selling them when I have my whole herd tb test in November but is this a good time to sell them? I wouldn't have the room to keep them over the next winter so would need to be gone by then. They are mostly Hereford x steers and British Friesian steers and would be aiming at selling them at 12 months + of age

We sell stores around 2yrs old, sell at any time of the year and doesn't make much difference as they likely go to a big fattening unit, and we get more money from them like that then when we used to fatten them ourselves.

12month old types would go better in the spring I'd say as people can turn them out to grass

I sell stores all year round and if they are stronger types, 500 kg plus then don't find much difference in price. Smaller ones definitely better at spring.

I would normally say sell when you've had your herd test. But traditionally stores ease a bit the month before Christmas as finishers have a clear out for the Christmas period, then they start restocking in January and prices go mad for a couple of weeks. So in your situation I'd either hang on till the new year if you can, or sell off grass this backend before they lose too much condition/bloom in the autumn.

Keep British friesians until 18/24 months sell beef ones whenever I doubt you will pay for the rearing of the friesian steers if you sell at 12 months.

Forget selling this age cattle in October/ November/ December or Jan!

Very plain 12 month old Fri steers today were £600 head without any trouble, very good money for the age/ grade that they were, some much bigger/ fleshy 24 month old Fri cattle around the 24 month old mark were only £780/800 head.

Hereford steers around the 12 month mark today with named sires would be £700 head easily.

Really! They wouldn't make that down this neck of the woods.

How come they are wanted all of a sudden?

Because they go for Mince and Mince is the biggest selling meat these days ( ie because its cheap and you can use it in many dishes that can be cooked in slow cookers etc and these cookers are getting very popular with households )

I have people ringing up weekly wanting to know if I have any Fri steers to sell fat and they all literally want them the next day as well.

Plus Contx cattle are lose makers on the current store trade for fhinshers and thus many people that I know that haven't touched Fri steers for a few years are now back buying them.

That's interesting to know a couple of years ago you had a hard job to give them away.
