Hey guys, I’m a newbie & looking for some advice
Looking for a tractor to do light work such as mowing paddocks, levelling driveway, a bit of loader work etc
Thinking along the lines of 60 - 100 HP & will be buying new
Any suggestions? Or just as important, any manufacturer’s to avoid?
Hi @Shunkie I have a Case Farmall 85a & a MF 4708 both 82 hp the case has a loader on it , first of all not all sub 100hp tractors are the same & depends on use.
Firstly weight, there are lots of sub 100hp tractors under 3 tonnes, avoid these if intended for loader work or serious farm work .
If I was going to change I would look to case first as it's far superior to the Massy ....but dealers have changed locally and not keen on new Case dealer so my list is-
1 Duetz- do a good range of sub 100hp tractors but weight may be a problem + spares!?
2 Mccormick- good dealer locally and new models coming out .
3 ?? Umm OK Massy if I have too.

MF390 certainly held their value well, especially 390T versions with the 12x12 gearbox. However, they are now very old indeed, the youngest examples being about 25 years of age. Still good tractors but expect some wear and tear at that age.

Contrary to many opinions, I would look at what is available, new and used, and grab one ASAP, because both new and used values are only going one way and that is

He sells a lot of nice used tractors. Trades a lot of New Hollands especially, many from T Alun Jones the NH main dealer from whom he takes many of their part exchanges. So absolutely genuine dealer in case anyone wondered. It’s a bit of a stretch to say that Lanwnnen is “just off the M4 corridor” though, as stated in ‘about us’.

Estate agent speak Reading is central London and Pill in Newport is semi rural nice kit list but no prices which means your automatically a time waster as you have to phone to find out

is it just to stop the farm who traded it in complaining when they see what it’s being sold for

I doubt that. The area is highly competitive and tractors will probably retail for near enough what they were bought for on paper. These are extraordinary times though with significant new and used price inflation, so who knows?
The family company is very well established and regarded locally. I’ve never dealt with them myself.
