I have a couple of lambs with what looks like codd, I treated them with betamox la on Sunday but can see no improvement. I'm going to have them in tomorrow do I go with second betamox jag or is there a better drug for codd.

In my experience betamox will work. Give them a second jab with a bit of Terramycin spray

We had a vet meeting in the Spring where this was discussed. Our vet was recommending a big im dose of Tylan. IIRC it was 10ml for a ewe, split 5ml at 2 sites. (I now use that as a quarantine jab for anything coming in).
Someone at the meeting was saying they had an outbreak just as they started lambing a couple of years ago. They ran everything through a Tylan/Pharmasin footbath daily for 3 days and it cleared it up. He reckoned they not seen any since.

You've just jogged my memory, I had a few cases couple of years back I did them with betamox la it took over a week for them to recover, I'm just not being patient enough. Thanks

Presentation at Sheep Breeders Round table about CODD. Oxytetracycline (engemycin/alamycin) was the treatment of choice, or micotil (vet only).
Micotil by vet only unless you have an Irish friend to deliver it [emoji6][emoji6][emoji6]

We've experienced a fairly major codd flare up this year in the flock, zactran has been extremely effective in clearing it up. Just had the ewes in now that we'd pulled out and the improvement is tremendous in less than a week. Edit. Drawback for using on lambs is the 64 day withdrawal!!!!

We had an outbreak in the shed last spring. Alamycin wasn't touching it so vet advised using zactran. It worked really well but beware! It's about £180 per bottle without vat. We had used five or six bottles before the bill arrived!

The vet was saying one dose of 10ml, split over 2 sites (it's thick stuff). Costs about £28/100ml, so still around £2.80/sheep!
I think I'd be more inclined to try the ab footbath route if there were a big number effected, just down to cost.

Doesn't work if they're really lame as they don't put the bad foot down in the water if they can help it. Obviously it does help to stop it spreading to others though.

Treated them with the second betamox jag today if that doesn't work I think I'll take them to the vet for mocotil.
