Best way to offload a challenging bit of kit!?

Why is the general consensus to sell things far away and let it be someone else's problem? I cannot understand why equipment with a fault cannot be advertised as such and let the next chap take his chance on it if he so wishes, knowing of the fault and if he feels the value is correct for it. The again, I suppose there will always be some guy willing to buy it with the known fault and move it on unwittingly to some other victim.

I'm glad @spin isn't the only one tempted to have a go at the challenge that has been thrown before us:).
Wishing we knew what it is now...

Give it a good valet make it look as shiney as possible and put it in a machinery sale
Seen a few things people have issues with go through local online sales.

I put a genuine mower through one and not one person cam and looked at it but 4 different people bid on it

Bought it cheap but has issues and don't want to upset the next man...... I'm amazed no-one has suggested the Swan vestas yet

at the risk of a dead horse thread, ill think ill keep quiet until the deed is done.

to put folk's mind at rest, this kit is not dangerous, just annoying. it gets used daily, if it doesn't work its a PITA and I get grief from all levels.

the cost to fix the known faults is probably sub £2k but I have lost confidence in it, despite spending 2k when I bought it to get it tidy.

I tend to keep kit for a long time and this doesn't fit my plan.

ill keep you all posted, one day :p

Had a mower to sell, it needed a new bed and had been reassembled with a lot of gunge to keep the oil in. I put it in a collective auction with no warranty at all. It made reasonable money,😀 to my neighbour😧
He bought it as he recognised where it came from! I spoke to him and explained the issues and offered to take it back, he would have nothing of it
He kept it for 5 years with no issues and tradedit for money than he paid for it😅

Ok, I look at this from a different point to please try to read it before deciding.
a) you bought a machine for “rather good value”
In other words it was cheap.
b) younow want to sell it to some other poor suspecting farmer..... and get as much back as possible?
c) If you were the poor suspecting farmer who bought it then discovered this thread, how would you feel?
So my answer is to be honest, sell it advertised with all its faults and take it in the chin .
He already is the unsuspecting farmer who bought it cheap for a reason - the seller knew it had gremlins in the electrics.
Accept a loss and don't make it into something it isn't - ie reliable

Just spend some money to fix the f*cking thing and then sell it as a working machine. Quite simple really.
