Better mix for winter cattle grazing?

Currently grazing a mixture of hybrid kale and stubble turnips. It is a big help forage wise this year but was wondering if there is any other species we could add to make it better for the cattle, birds or the soil.

I have seen on some of the US sites that they add maize, sorghum grass and clovers.

Not very keen on having to feed silage with the kale.

When did you plant it? I have this plan for next autumn for some of the cows here as I am going to use the catch crop option for greening so will be planting in July straight after w barley comes off. I was thinking some maize seed might just make it into the mix.

Looks like good food, but I would throw some grasses in there. The cattle will appreciate that diversity. For winter grazing stick to some cool season grass species that aren’t typically a part of your cash crop rotation to avoid disease issues. But your cattle look happy, and that grazing is doing wonders for the soil I’m sure.
