Big problem is that many of those alive today are here because of the green revolution. This was born out of fert and pesticides. No amount of regen, organic voodoo will alter this. Reality is that many people will likely starve to death in the next couple of years!
Maybe not in the next couple of years but I reckon it could happen within a generation. Too many governments around the World bringing in green, environmental measures and taking their foot off food production. Our hopeless Government being one such example.

I guarantee there'll be mass starvation in poorer nations next year. If we can't afford fert then they definitely can't.

Indebted to the armpits
Obsessed with house values.
We import 45% of our food, which is going to be a lot dearer.
The richest countries in the world last time food was scarce in 50,s 60,s and 70,s were argentina, australia and nz

A starving population will blame the govt.
Sensible govt to see the situation, realise it's a problem and DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT!
they used to here, and many other countries, called subsidies, designed to keep food prices down, and it worked, Here, in the UK, some very smart businesses, like s/mkts, found they could include our sub, in deciding how much they would pay for product, so they did. For many farmers, the SFP is totally irrelevant, while we might like to think otherwise, it's gone, eaten away, by the pricing set up we have here, it's the major end seller (s/mkts) that have the benefit of it.
The climate change zealots, have had their way, and subs no longer are related to food production, fine, great even fantastic, we can get a sub, without producing food, the major buyers cannot include it in their pricing, farmers actually have a chance of keeping some of it.
Chuck in high fert, and fuel prices, food production will fall, transport costs of importing from abroad, NZ to UK cost has nearly doubled, NZ and Aus beef and lamb, will go to the 'east' not here, simply on price - it's nearer, and demand is increasing.
So, the two things we cannot, and will not survive without, food and water, lower production, increased demand, higher transport costs, all impact very positively on food price, paid to us.
Guv, in it's wisdom, decided to end subs, on food production, and moved to the environmental good, Now, if/when, food cost rises, they will have to choose which to pay, food production, or climate, they cannot pay both, and food will always win.

Yes, the problem of dealing with surpluses is tiny compared to that of shortages.
The govt learned that in 1916, and again in 1939.
They have now forgotten

A food shortage will come faster than we expected, and I don’t mean next week I mean that when it does it will happen quickly. There is no quick fix either, the harvest is the harvest, and that’s a fact.
Chairman Mau and Starling killed many with a famine and it wasn’t that bloody long ago, however we have become over fed fat senseless comfort pigs in this easy time in world history
