Beyond dry

Wood field

Rain forecast here next week, I moved all the sheep off this block last Monday on to some regrowth
Hopefully I can get some muck out before the rain ( if it arrives)
I usually curse our thin wet soil over clay , but it seems to be holding up for now

Holy feck!

My burns are running dry and a couple of lots of cattle will need moved to find water, but at least we're still green. Even got a nice aftermath on silage fields lifted 4 weeks ago today.

Just to show I can be sensitive, I won't post photos.
Makes a difference from burns overflowing and stock poaching the fields (were in South Lanarkshire so probably similar conditions to you).

Back in March/April/May this was my most productive field.

Amazing how deep the Chicory rooting must have got.... I have seen the same here. The "aftermath" 4 weeks after a light grazing consists of a some chicory leaves...

More grass on the lawn, than any fields on the farm. My flushing paddock looks decidedly ropey!

weve got thunder rain warnings from met. for Monday it seems.

longs as its not too extreme ,will lower the fire risk at least , hopefully
Saw 2 big smoke plumes from work this afternoon. Pretty sure the big one was a combine and whole field going up. It appeared like they got the one nearer the Wrekin under control very quickly but the one at Roddington was a biggy!
Trouble will be is if we get a deluge now it'll run straight off and flood everywhere! Some steady constant rain through the nights and warm balmy days is what I want!

When I have seen 25mm, I will start blowing it Eastwards.... Just depends whether those Welsh lads hog it all again ;)
Don’t blame me!

Dry as a witch’s chuff here. Lags it down over the hills and the Conwy valley: even Denbigh and Abergele get a soaking, but this top end of the Vale of Clwyd habitually gets sweet FA.

Still, even we are seemingly much better off than most of southern and eastern England. It looks seriously grim there. Count our blessings.

Have to feel for you guys down south.
It looks a difficult situation.
Presume fodder costs are creeping upwards?
Have areas burning up on rock heads, and a number of burns going dry, harvest continues with samples consistently sub 15%. Not often seen here I can assure you.
Thunder storms, careful what you wish for last year we had 130 mm fall in an afternoon, crops remained standing, but workshop, and other buildings flooded and roads and stone walls heavily damaged by backing up water looking to get away. Circa £45 K damage and on going chat with insurers.
Hope you get the moisture required soon.

this is a cut only ley, cut 55 days ago, was shut up for 3rd, don't think its going to happen.
dry cows will defoliate now.
but its bloody dry every where here
herbal leys still have a very high DM bite, but not a lot. Chicory, docks and thistles, form most of what is growing now.
chicory, grazing next paddock from a chicory one, son said chicory was in full flower at 6.00am, moved the fence pm, not a flower in site, but it still grows.
plantain looks pretty sick, not worried, they self seed, so will come back, same as w/clover.
Have a red clover ley, that is now consisting of r/c plants, amongst bare soil, all grass gone, the only other green, is fudging docks, even some of them look sickly.
