I think I have heard this right that Biden has promised to defend Taiwan against an onslaught from China .
.......is this the right thing to do ......
How thin can you spread your defences .
Is this a ploy by China to dilute the Ukraine defence to help Putin ?
......just wondering .

Yes.
US has huge military resources, and won't be acting alone anyway.
No.

Totalitarian states must be stood up to, China is no exception. Remember, if a dictator loses a war, he's on the way out; Xi knows this and also knows he couldn't win such a war.

Funny the USA weren't prepared to stand up for Ukraine a European country against any Russian invasion but are prepared to take on China in defence of another non European country the other side of the world, wonder what the difference could possibly be?

Possibly to due to a huge amount of electronic manufacturing in Taiwan?
The majority of hard drive production is in Taiwan, for example.

Well Brian old boy, serious question, which would you prefer, a world dominated by the Chinese and Russians or the USA. Simple answer is all that is required for a simple fella like me. One word be enough. Thank you.

Biden wants to be very careful, where as all countries took Trump's threats seriously because no one was quite sure whether the dozy bugger was daft enough to carry out any threat to start an all out war, no one believes Biden has the balls or any intention of doing so!

So pumping $33,000,000,000 into Ukraine is not enough to say , hold on , hang fire, to a certain blood thirsty dictator?

Pumping money & arms & letting others get killed is the easy bit with no real come back , being prepared to put US troops in harms way is a whole different story that Biden will not risk.
Their concern for Ukraines people is pure bullsh!t!!

The gizmos allow the machinery that pump the oil, drill the gas and treat the water to work. Chip shortages are one of the main drivers of equipment shortages at the moment.
Then relying on just one country in serious danger of becoming involved in a conflict would seem to be total stupidity don't you think?

Beg to differ, China has a massive military budget and equally if not more advanced weapons systems than the US with highly capable hacking teams. They also have a larger and increasingly more advanced navy. All bought and paid for with the west's money. They weren't kidding when they branded them the yellow peril. Taiwan would be impossible to conquer because its people hate the Chinese (my wife's mother in law is Taiwanese). However the Chinese could easily 'occupy' it for a significant time after a fairly bloody battle. In my opinion the reason the US pulled out of Afghan at alarming speed was so they could be 100% ready for the coming war with China.

We agree about the reality of success for a Chinese invasion, but no, China's military really isn't up to much. As for how advanced it is... China shows off what it thinks is its greatest efforts as soon as it can, we - the West - generally underplay ours unless we need to do otherwise. Looking at run-ins Chinese forces have had with others, I can't think of a single instance wherein they shone, and none of them were against the West.

If Trump was still there he would say to the Chinese if you invade Taiwan I will nuke you feckers & they wouldn't have a clue whether he really meant it, what the feck do you think Biden will do if the Chinese actually invade, send the Taiwanese some money?
