Better get used to shortages and soaring prices then.
It worries me that politicians seem to think they can ban this and stop that without there being very serious commercial consequences. Sooner or later they will push it too far, if they haven’t already, and they will pay a very heavy political price.
Which political party wants to be the one that goes down in history as the one that completely broke the system?
There may well need to be changes in the way we work, but these changes need to be implemented over decades not years.

It's not really a huge problem though, we can just switch to rapemeal, a byproduct from all the OSR being processed. Oh hang on, HMG have massively reduced OSR cropping by banning neonics to appease public opinion.

No problem then, we'll just use palm kernal instead, no problems with that at all...

Will Tofu, Quorn, etc be outlawed as a result, seeing as livestock only get to eat the waste products from human food production? Every cloud.

Back to grass fed beef and lamb same as our ancestors oh and good old mutton one of the weekly roasts for the old time hill shepherds.
With out being too downbeat.....

"They" don't want any beef, lamb etc.

It's being made pretty clear.

The law of unintended consequences will come to bear though with ill thought out plans and no long term joined up thinking. Or maybe, for us plebs it doesn't matter? "They" will look after us?

All very short sighted by the government and I can’t see plant based foods feeding the masses.

People who want to eat meat will begin keeping "Pets" to avoid taxes .. or just raid fields and wildlife.

Like it or loathe it, imported soya is a key ingredient of many livestock rations in the U.K. I’d say it would take 20 years to find a viable alternative without seriously rocking the boat. Lupins show promise but aren’t there yet.

No it isn't- ruminants can do without it totally without issue, many people do. I doubt soya is even economic to use in beef rations now given the cost of it.

How did your grandfathers rear cows or pig or chicken back in the day before hi pro soya meal was even a thing? I think most contributors to this forum would agree the current food chain is borked beyond belief anyway so should we be too worried about it changing?

Good old fashioned grass feed milk, beef and lamb and scale back the intensity on pig and poultry production would be no bad thing. Probably healthier for those us eating it, too.
