Big Farmland Bird Count

Are any of you doing it this year?

Seems to be being used more and more to show the 'hidden' work we're doing. Nice and easy to do, just half an hour with some binos:

This is what the NFU put out about it:
  1. Download a count sheet from the BFBC website at www.bfbc.org.uk.
  2. Count your birds! On a day between 7 and 16 February, spend 30 minutes recording the species and number of birds seen on one particular area of the farm.
  3. Once you've completed your count, simply submit your results at www.bfbc.org.uk.

Got lapwings, curlews, and great Egrets here.. good population of brown hares as well all due to farm management creating a suitable environment. But hey ho the greater good is about to stick a public footpath with right to roam/spreading room, for the coastal path right trough the middle of it all.!!! Then guess what, once joe public and Fido do away with them all.., modern farming practices will be blamed for the decline of said species....

Apparantly, as heard on the beeb recently, that intensive agriculture is responsible for the plummeting starling population. Sure as eggs is eggs, the remainder depend and do well on it especially this time of year.
