Big square baler hitch

Random question can a big baler be ran on the pickup hook?

Got a claas on demo that was on a ball and spoon but was swapped back to need the drawbar so is there any reason why it couldn't be ran on the hook with the right size eye bolted on .
Also looked at an old massey at a mates place and it looked like it had a big ring with a spacer to get back to drawbar pin size it just look like it wanted the shaft cut and it would be fine on the hook.

I know of several people run them on the hook without issues. We still run ours on the drawbar as I prefer the pivot point nearer the centre of the pto as possible and it’s better for tight turns. It’s no issue for us really as the tractor generally stays on the drawbar for harvest as it’s other jobs are sumoing and drilling

Our old 190 has a wide hitch on it, so have to modify tractor drawbar to make it fit over baler.

It's a bit annoying and not very quick to hitch on/off. The drawbar stays on baler.

The Fendt has a bigger drawbar. But unfortunately it doesn't fit without modification either.🤦

Contractor/friend runs ball and spoon on his Krone and says it limits how hard you can turn, so didn't recommend changing it.

I was thinking the same but just wondering as the ball and spoon will be same pivot point as the hook
Ball should be a bit further back. And I am pretty sure there is a system to have it back a bit further but might depend on tractor model. Can you send me all machine models and ideally photo's of baler hitch setup and i can see if I can supply something suitable.

I'm not interested in a ball and spoon if I was getting a baler it would either be on a drawbar or hook

I have spoon (Baler end) from claas baler second hand for sale , once tried a Claas 2200 on pick up hitch & it was no good pivot point is in the wrong place, Ball & spoon is the best way
No ta as said already absolutely no interest in a ball hitch that's just putting more money onto something that doesn't need to have it .

That claas I have is spot on the JD has a 40mm pin so it's got very little movement on it so no need for it . Pickup hitch would be the easiest solution me if we go down that route but drawbar isn't really an issue either as the round baler is in drawbar anyway

The machines to benefit most from K80 ball and spoon are square balers and tankers. The amount of wear we have saved on pickup hooks and rings has paid for conversion of all but the bale trailer over a very short period. The bale trailer needs to go behind the JCB 541-70 or it would have a spoon.

We've 2 different sizes of pickup hitches on JD tractors so that's 2 different tractor ends I'd need so more expense hence the reason I've absolutely NO interest in a ball and spoon system.

A drawbar or hook and ring is the only option I'm interested in so that's why I asked the question.

Had 2 square balers on ball and spoon. Wish we’d done it sooner. Less wear, better ride and easier to hook on.
2 balls, 1 for fastrac & 1 for Deere’s. Probably could sell the fastrac one as hardly use it but it’s there if we need it.
As said, ball is further back than hook.
No reason couldn’t use on hook. Will probably need to shorten pto length as pivot point wants to be central. Link arms will be nearer unless you remove them anyway.

sorry but if you can aford to spend a £1000 on ball & spoon can you aford to buy a baler, , you are mad to try & put it on a pick up hitch & will wear you drawbar out in not time ,

Buying the ball system was bad enough when they were £500 for the ball and half that for the bolt on spoon. Over £1000 for the ball now which is not value for money anymore.. If you are an intensive user then you have to buy and run the system and that's it but Dromone have cut their market to a fraction of what it could have been by just being too greedy. Most less intensive users will think twice and just live with a slack hook and ring which just wears the rest of the tractor hitch. Shame as it's a great system

I’d have a ball and spoon next time but run drawer bar and 40mm pin at present. Current baler has 50k bales on, last one went with 60k on it, never worn a drawer bar out in those bale counts.

Annoyingly I only realised this year to have bennet hitch spool on external valve for hitching up pin 🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️ Used to be a right faff trying to line it up, but penny finally dropped 😂🙄

This is what will happen to a ring hitch on a baler ,that was HD ring hitch 50mm thick
