Biomass boiler reviews - are the returns as you were told?

Have a 100kw catfire wood pellet boiler in here, and had no end of problems with it to start with.
It`s amazing how withholding a fair chunk of money spurs them on to sort it out though.
Last year we were burning a ton of pellets per week whatever the weather.
Now after they replaced the dodgy underground pipe we are up to 80% efficient and a ton of pellets now lasts 3 weeks.
Have put in a few controls ourselves to make it more efficient but well worth it

Well it's against bale numbers so the weights will vary but assuming a 550kg bale then we get 3500 kWh on the meter with a couple of wads left on each bale as it's a twin feed belt.

What we do is weigh a load of straw into the yard and then obviously monitoring the meter as we use the load.

So it's likely to have a higher yield in reality as that reading sounds like it's after the boiler which can't be 100% efficient? If so that's very good.

perhaps the answer to straw bale biomass storage?

Looks good. All ours are Under cover, too valuable to be left outside!

We have 80 kw Eco Angus log boiler which has worked fine heating 2 farmhouses which are constantly warm throughout. Uses about what installer said it would to produce 7K ish RHI and large saving on oil. Key is seasoned wood.

Yes that would be correct. When it's going full whack on a 2000t drying floor it runs at about 85-90% of total capacity.

Our froeling tx200 boiler pretty much hit t1 bang on last year though it took a fair bit of managing on my behalf.

We also have 2x froeling chp units that went in this year. Unfortunately they are only doing about 75% of the quoted output, though we are plagued with overheating issues. I am praying when that is sorted they will be a bit closer to what we expected.

What are the VAT and Tax implications on a commercial biomass system?

My understanding is that on a commercial system I will be taxed on RHI income and will also have to pay VAT at 20%.

I may be totally wrong, but just thinking that once I've deducted the VAT and the tax elements from the RHI payments there won't be enough left to actually run the machine!

What do you mean by the word 'commercial'? Because a boiler isn't a standalone business so for a farm that installs one to perhaps dry crops/produce, heat a workshop and a couple of houses then it becomes part of the entire business. A 995mw boiler in that instance should have a net benefit to the complete business of around £100k/year before payback and running costs.

Vat is paid and claimed back on the purchase and the tax will be on the complete business if the business is in profit.

If you were looking at installing a boiler to sell heat to domestic houses locally then no I doubt it would work due to the vat mainly I would think.

How often do you fill it with logs as we don't seem to get the savings you get with once a day filling ?
