BIOMASS BOILERS- 'GOOD VS BAD'

I want to find out your opinion on different types of biomass boilers, I have worked with a few over the years. So would like to know your thoughts. Any makes and models welcome.

Windhager is Rolls Royce package non commercial closely followed by Hargassner, Eta and Froling depending on size and type of fuels.

5 x P+H 97, just a big box with burning pellets in the bottom what can go wrong?

so far-
a violent power surge damaged 3 control panels, and many other things on the farm
pellets overloaded the bin to boiler auger - sorted, adjusted restrictions
02 sensors need cleaning/replacing
1 firedoor control motor broke its alloy casting - fixed
ash auger sometimes jams - easily cleared
sometimes needs new rope/glue on service hatches after clean out

From what I understand Froling are one of the longest running suppliers of Biomass equipment. ETA are a recent offshoot from Froling.

If your looking for a larger system I would recommend Heizomat or Froling equipment.

Well our Hamont catfire 100kw pellet boiler has been in 10 month now and not been any trouble, and it is extremely efficient.
Have a lot of heat loss on underground pipes so company fitted a heat meter to boiler to make sure it was`nt getting lost on boiler.
Reckon its 90% efficient using decent quality pellets.
Just need to sort out where the other 30% is going that is not reaching the properties

from our involvement in biomass, i would say bottom feed boilers such as binder are useless, weve replaced 3 in the last year a they just dont work and the authorised supplier wont give technical support. ETA i would say are the easiest to install and have the best user interface. we have over 20 systems with this boiler and have very few issues. Froling are very good but even now after many years of development, we are having daft mechanical issues with a couple we have installed. And Herz!!! not gonna go there.

We have a Froling 150KW wood chip boiler. Never missed a beat in 2 years. Richard Dalley at DC2 engineering did the install. He's got a great team of lads doing the work and Richard really knows his stuff when it comes to designing the system.

It powers 2 farm houses, 2 finrone weaner buildings, 2 farrowing houses and a heat fan for kiln drying firewood.

20 months with a Heizomat 199kw heating rads and water tanks in the farmhouse and 8 cottages. So far a service and a flail on the loading sweep replaced. I have to clean the O2 sensor every time I clean it down i.e. once ever 3 weeks (20 mins, my decision). Hitting targets for heat production using slightly over the amount of chip I was quoted originally. Using 1.5- 3.5t chip per week depending on weather. Was 3.5t last week but was below freezing the whole time. Tenants very happy, electric bills back from a max of £350/month to £50 (electric combi) and rent up £80-£100/house/month
Also means I keep my tenants longer... so far! Also finding that naturally dried wood is far more efficient than floor dried chip. Is this right or am I imaging it???

Cheers BB

Living in a hard water area a couple of issues have come to light recently with boilers leaking / failing in under 2 years. As an installer ( pipework) may be worth a mention ??? Also finding some suppliers are getting shy whenit comes to good will . Just saying

I have been asked to enquire by a third party;
For reasons best known to herself, a 79 year old widow has had a Trianco outfit installed along with a very large external hopper. She is getting constant blockage troubles and the manufacturer/installer combination are passing the buck backwards and forwards.
Does anyone else have experience of this make who can give some pointers towards making it run satisfactorily?
It is only supplying a small cottage so I would guess it is the smallest model.

Rip it out and fit an oil boiler, cheaper heat.

The issue is with the fuel feed then, This can happen a lot depending on the set up ,does the silo have a single outlet at the base of the to feed the boiler. or 2?? these can be very troublesome., any images would be beneficial

I aren't a fan of heizomatt as they are slow to respond and are slumber boilers..
If your looking at bigger boilers avoid the slumber ones.. Some of the small pellet boilers do the same kindle thing, again for the uk avoid this unless there are some good uk reviews.
All depends on what you want for your money. HDG are suppose to be the rolls Royce but hey even a modern rolls isn't as reliable these days. They do have there issues.
Guntamatic are ok but you will need to replace the same parts every other year, so long as you don't run the nuts off it.
Herz are like a ford, value for money, yea it might throw a wobble after a few years but it will be worth fixing and will plod on till your sick of looking at it.

The fuel delivery system is shockingly bad. The company that supplied and fitted them are useless and won't give us the access codes for the software.
