I put a random bale on top of the3 layers that I stack every 100 bales or so.

The birds all seem to go for those and none of the others.

I am glad that my problem is not as bad as some on here though. Touch wood

Im having the same problem this year have an outfarm with 60 haylage bales wrapped and the crows has detroyed them from the minute they were made i have tried putting grease on top of the bales scare crows you name it nothing is working, however at the home farm 3 miles away crows hasnt attacked a single bale out of the 100no. I also have about 1000 small haylage bales at home and crows never touched them however i made about 500no. small haylage bales all wrapped on the saturday on the outfarm and when i went back to start lift them on the monday every single bale was destroyed and i had to rewrap them all. I dont use any scarecrows or anything at the home farm and the crows dont go near them.

Wether I stack as tin cans or on their side all stacks get sheeted with gale breaker covers. 10 year guarantee and if they save a bale and a half a year they pay for them selves. They are also really slippy so very easy to drag about on your own.

We use the ones they pecked in previous years as @Pan mixer but ours are square and we put two or three on top of every row.

Our latest problem is rabbits living in the pile and ruining the bottom bales in the middle
We have to rabbit fence ours which is a pain, the back and one side are permanent, the other two sides are 16 foot sections made of 4 by 2 with wire stapled on so that they can be moved - we used to lose dozens of bales to rabbits before we did that.
