Got to replace a pipe across a field, quite thin walled slightly bigger externally and internally to blue 32mm
Anybody know what size it is, or the exact fitting to use ?
Thanks

Philmac metric/imperial fittings, I expect just 1". The same fitting will do it and the similar blue. It'll say 32mm/1". The big rectangular 'O' ring will squeeze tight, as long as there are no bad marks.

The TFF consensus seems to prefer plassoon in general, but these are bloody handy to have if there's black pipe about.

Plasson plass 4 couplers, not the cheapest way to do it but (only a few quid more than others) regardless of pipe type and within reason condition if the pipe you are going onto is within the size range of the fitting they will fit and seal.

Probably 1 1/4" Class C.
Converters from Class C black to Blue readily available from plumbers merchants /machinery dealers / agric merchants
.Before class C (maybe 1950`s ) there was a black pipe in use, again converter fittings available
hence good idea If possible cut a sample out of the black pipe & take it with you.
Yes 32mm is about 1 1/4" but the blue mdpe 32mm outside is about the same as 1 inch bore class c alkathene.

Back in February , I wanted to join some 1" class C to a 1" BSP lever ball tap.
I knew a Philmac 32mm would fit but the Ag store I was at only sold Plasson.
Assuming it would be the same , I was a bit confused when the black pipe wouldn't fit in the Plasson 32mm fitting.....after a bit of head scratching I remembered I needed the correct adapter.

If @chaos is lucky he will be able to read the writing on the side of the pipe.

Best advice would be to get a selection of inserts for all possible pipe densities.

I got fittings for black to blue a while ago and they didn't need inserts at all therefore no odds if it was C or D.

Can't for the life of me remember what brand they were though. 😖

Hence the plasson plass 4 couplers, doesn't matter about internal bore only need the outside diameter to be within fitting range.

Been renewing our old asbestos 1 1/2" bore with 50mm mdpe..Told digger driver to keep to the left of the old pipe and eventually he'd find an inch alkathene branch that was moled in late seventies..Not far from tank on top of hill so I've not used any inserts , still could be 50-60 psi with the pump going..Used a standard 32mm philmac joiner to connect new 32mm to old 1" bore alkathene

They also seem to fit the multitude of much cheaper Plasson copies.

The secret I found to stop them from leaking was to put them back in the bag & buy another brand. Really didn’t get on with them. They had to be done up murder tight & even then the slightest movement & they leaked.
I avoid them if possible and would never risk them underground where their incontinence would be unoticed.

What is the secret to using philmac fittings ?.I don't like using the modern ones
Don't blame the fittings it's the condition of the pipe which is most important and being sure the pipe is in the size range of the fitting. It's rare that you dig a pipe up without any marks on it.
