Black oat seed

I'm thinking of planting a black oat cover crop. A brief look on the internet suggests the seed costs around £2/kg which seems outrageously expensive. Is that what I should expect to pay?

What would the advantage of black oats be over just buying a ton of normal oats of a merchant and sowing them.
Edit. apart from the obvious of a higher mark up for the bloke selling them.

Black/Japanese oats said to give better root growth than common oats -whether that is worth the extra cost is unclear, especially given the uncertain profitability of cover crops.
