Blade Farming

That was a short thread, I'm interested in blade as well. Has anyone got any positive experiences? I visited an ex-Dairy far that had utilised their old sheds for blade farming. They reckoned they were making a healthy profit - maybe there was a catch I didn't hear about? I don't know how it would work in an area prone to TB either.

Had a neighbour who was with them but pulled out and now runs an Angus suckler herd instead. Like any contract you work everyday of the year and take all the risk whilst ibiding by their rules, they promise you the world and are fantastic to deal with at the start then repeatably sh!t on you. The calves are a lot more expensive than rearing your own or buying independantley and Blade take a Margin at every stage, not much in it as it is!

We’ve got some Angus steers and heifers finishing from them at the moment at 20-21 months. They have done alright and are what they are as dairy bred animals. Just wish the price was better but that covers all finished prices at the moment.
Having everything come in BVD tested is a bonus rather than take pot luck from market.

Is BVD tested something that Blade offer on all animals or is it something you specified?

I think the Blade model is great, I have spoken with them at length about it as well as some of their farms.

One thing I have found is that it really has to suit you, it's no good listening to what me and others say.

It's safe and dependable, which is why you see a lower margin. Essentially Blade are derisking it for you.
