Bldy Mastitis !

Group of ewes been out 5-6 weeks , good lambs growing well , no issue till now , just got 2 singles in (from 35) with mastitis , same in another group , that damn thunderstorm and cold wet grey day after , anyone else with issue ?

Yeah but all do here, have about 30 now (plus 2 dead) with buggered bags.

Resflor, although not licenced for sheep, is very effective.

Got the same issue here sent samples off to the vets for testing turns out the it's resistant to some white injection but not to allymycin so started using it with metacam seems to be keeping them going

I gone over to draxxin as was loosing a few of the ewes, had a couple of very sick ones last week that are still alive but had one that wasn’t that ill, gave engimicin to (had run out of draxxin) and she died yesterday.

I've had 6 ewes with mastitis/blackbag all sucking 2 lambs. Draxxin and Metacam will keep them alive. Both my neighbours have had several, I wonder how we can prevent it? Perhaps AHDB know how?!!!

We are having planty now, be at 20 since lambing from only 750. Lost one. Most seems to be starting with sore, cracked teats. Seems to be never ending. Most running with one lamb, a few with 2 if their still healthy enough but some needed both lifted....

It is related to ewes being a bit short of milk. The lambs chew at their teats. Singles hardly ever get it, triplets the most prone. I've also had less mastitis in ewes that have never been housed, over housed ones. I was thinking maybe they pick up germs in the shed.
