Blenky resigns?

We renewed our NFU mutual insurance yesterday.
They are separate entities.
I let it be known that I had cancelled our NFU subscription direct debit and we will probably leave.
The reasons I gave were mainly Red Tractor but also electronic tagging and whole life assurance.
I pointed out that Acres, County, F&M were all keen for our business but we felt that we were currently happy with the Mutual.
There was no mention of bonuses, they are well aware of the insurance competitors out there and (in our case) appreciate our business.

I thought the insurance arm was separate from the actual union? Threatening people with increased premiums if they rescind their NFU membership cannot possibly be legal?

It was more of a suggestion I might loose my bonuses going
forward if I didn't join the farming union.
I dont think that is the appropriate way to recruit new members .
In the past when I asked about discount off a pickup they happily
told me they were seperate entities.

F&M were around 20%dearer.
Rang another just to check farm vehicles
and the bloke rang me back and told me they
couldn't get anywhere near .
There are quite a few variables with insurance when
getting quotes .I could go cheaper if I didn't want the
same level of cover.
Agree with the variables, depends what you want I guess. I finally left them when their rep was trying to justify them being 300% more expensive on a particular insurance just because there was no excess and the other was £300 excess. I'm sure I could have got no excess from the other company if I'd wanted to.

Ah well that’s good as the NFU will be happy to take on members who want to pursue legal action about the unlevel playing field then!

I believe they have already replied saying there is no legal recourse. According to their internal legal team. I can't remember who asked though.

The NFU are so predictable. The top tier would have way more credibility if they didn't just cram an NFU person in every available position.

But remember, party line is, the NFU have no control over what Red Tractor do.... 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣
that's not what their second in command said

Got branches all around mid Wales/ Hereford and opening up more .
It doesn't seem to matter to them where you are are based. Lad is in Lancashire and he insures with them.

To do that you'd surely have to prove it was compulsory
to join as you wouldn't be able to sell your crop or stock elsewhere.
As soon as I turn the farm assurance button to off on my frontier app there is no market pricing for barley or OSR.

continous wheat is possible but certainly not the best way to farm sustainably imo!

It is separate, but you get a discount if you are an NFU member (just as you might if you’re buying a Isuzu, or whatever truck they are offering membership discounts for).
It’s not a ‘threat’ when the agent is, quite rightly, pointing out that an insurance client will no longer get that discount if they are no longer an NFU member.

It’s nothing sinister.

I had similar, 2 years after moving to Caleb Roberts (20% lower premium for better cover, through NIG). I heard nothing back either, until well after the renewal date when we spoke about another matter and he apologised but said they hadn’t been able to touch them.

Any claims have been handled through Caleb Roberts, and have been settled without quibble (admittedly not had a ‘biggy’ though, thankfully).
