Blood Donating....

Currently looks to be plenty up here.
Can only presume less A&E requirements and less routine surgery.
Have to say was a bit nervous when I went to local donation session a month ago, due to Covid. Cannot blame folk for cancelling.

C19 restrictions and me being over 70 means I cannot donate for 4 months
There is only 1 donating centre open in my area. Their usual places, leisure centres, town halls etc are closed and the mobiles can't be used and keep the 2 meter spacing required.

Been a bit negligent.
Having had "it" I was able to donate plasma to the Convalescent Plasma trial.
Done that 3 times, then got a letter from NHSBT saying my antibody level was below 3 so no good for the trial.
Back to doing blood............ and they`ve got Orange Club biscuits in!! ❤❤
How's it looking in Leicester now? Has the rate of infection dropped considerably since the city was leading the news reports?

I've always wondered if they test the blood or plasma for covid now,
Would be handy to know

If you have tested positive for Covid they will be after your plasma.
However, you need a certain level of antibodies for the plasma trial & mine dropped below 3 so I was rejected but that makes me interesting to the bods at work who are working on resistance/immunity!
Had more jabs than a second hand dartboard! lol

The whole thing has changed over the border since it became "pseudo-private".
Its all about the "donor experience" which to be fair is brilliant.
The texts are the icing on the cake for me.

And the Orange Clubs....... they could whip out a kidney for a box of them.. :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:
Definitely I imagine if someone wasn’t sure about the experience it would make them go back if they realised where it had helped someone.
I’m a mint club type of girl :ROFLMAO:

Having failed to donate last year, I thought it was time to make enquiries. The website offered a session on 17th of next month so I rang the helpline to check timings. 'You can have any time from 1.00 to 7.00' was the reply so I've booked us both for 1.10 and 1.20.
She asked about vaccination and I had my 2nd on 21/3. You have to wait 7 days after the jab apparently.
The reason I failed last year was that the only session nearby was fully booked so a bit of a change there.

Does anyone know the rules to donating and being on long term antibiotics?
All the help thing and frequently asked questions etc says you shouldn’t give bloody until you feel better and stopped taking antibiotics  I’m not poorly and will be taking them for the foreseeable to help my asthma.

Call your nearest donation centre. The Sister there will know.

I once turned up to donate platelets and admitted that I'd accidentally pricked my finger that week with the needle after giving a calf a jab. They spent ages researching it because it wasn't a product used in humans. In the end they stopped me donating for 3 months on a precautionary basis.

If I was honest I'd never get to donate blood, I always have some scratch here or there.
Haven't dont it since the whole crap with covid measures though, made they whole donation thing go from good enough to crappy. As long as the guys high up at the blood company (that has a monopoly) makes top dollar I don't feel the need to put up with a crappy experience.

Please consider swapping to donating platelets if you can (ask them to check if your platelet count is sufficient.). Extremely similar to donating plasma i.e. attend a centre rather than mobile service, and hooked up to the same machines.
