Blood sucking ahdb

Money would be better spent on a 5 minute Youtube cooking shows on the internet with adverts or the show running on mainstream tv half the trouble is people don’t know how to cook

You're welcome to pay my levies and reap the rewards from advertising. If you could kindly send me your bank details, I will set up a standing order.

Most of our lamb is exported, we as a farming business are being bent over for no reason, as are most other farmers who produce export quality lamb and beef.

I am sure the vast majority of farmers would opt out if their was an option.

I'm happy with my levies going to QMS. They're very active and do a good job

why do these people at the ahdb think they know about our industry when most couldn't farm a window box,I hope we get some real support when our ballot goes out early next week ,we have been contacted by ex ahdb staff who have said that farmers and growers do not realise what goes on and the waste of money (to use their words) is horrific

"We are the Agriculture and Horticulture Development Board (AHDB). Our purpose is to inspire our farmers, growers and industry to succeed in a rapidly changing world. We equip the industry with easy to use, practical know-how, which they can apply straight away to make better decisions and improve their performance. AHDB is a statutory levy board and is funded by farmers, growers and others in the supply chain."

So in a nutshell, we give them information and money.
They just give us back the information and some inspiration.

Personally I agree with a levy for promotion but instead of paying these time servers at AHDB I would have a small organisation that engaged professional marketing/ advertising companies to run various campaigns and promotions. Like in the real world ask for advertisers to come up with a campaign and the best gets the contract......simples.

Just in case anyone is interested the AHDB do advertise.

Just google AHDB advertising -

thing is AHDB advertising isn’t aimed at farmers so you probably won’t have seen it. What the point advertising to farmers in the Farming press? We know what we do!

I think most growers in the horticultural industry would all agree that the Dutch really lead the way on growing, research and machinery innovation they managed to rid themselves of their ahdb equivalent some years ago and talking to some of the growers when they paid us a visit last year the comment varied from couldn't tell any difference except saved paying to pleased to see the back of them ,I can understand cereal and the straight farmers not caring that much when they only pay 47p a ton levy a 1000 ton is £470 but some of the growers that joined our petition are parting with some serious cash one carrot grower pays £90,000 one bedding plant chap pays £100,000 per year and neither use ahdb services I think most would agree there is not the margin to have anybody skimming money out of our business

Just my opinion but these organisations take the subs from farmers to run the organisations.
They need to stay within the health and safety rules and human resources requirements etc so rightly so they spend the levy money keeping the staff safe and well looked after as you should when running a business. The trouble lie's when the levy payer i.e. the farmers are struggling to generate an income for themselves let alone keep on top of repairs/maintenance of machinery or buildings. There isn't any spare income to add to they're own pension pots or personal Development or training. The organisation's staff are all looked after out of the farmers payments yet there may not be enough in the farmers pot to look after himself.

That's just a general opinion, I'm sure there's plenty of farmers making plenty of money but I also know plenty who are living hand to mouth.

These organisations are supposed to be helping the farmers succeed but somehow it doesn't see to be improving the result for the farmer.

Well Phil p I see they said there is a couple of ahdb employees on the forum well a least you have come out maybe you could enlighten us on your salary
I’m not an AHDB employee, however I do try and at least get my levy’s worth back by attending the monitor farm program (I’m on the steering group).
like most things in life, you get out what you put in!

If it was optional would you still pay ?
Given that many wouldn't pay so it wouldn't be able to do half what it does now

Rather then the QMS, you should be thankful to the English and Irish for taking over and operating abattoirs in Scotland, which would have been long shut, demolished and turned in to housing estates. Your livestock marts have tried operating abattoirs and have failed.

Will be a very unpopular opinion on here, however the likes of Larry are your saviour to be honest.

That’s a good question! As it stands I don’t mind paying it, I’d probably scrap red tractor first but that’s a hole different debate.
I can only go off my personal experience and what the AHDB have done for me, as a relatively young farmer I’ve found the things I’ve learned from the monitor farm program extremely helpful. It’s giving me the chance to speak to local farmers I’ve never met before and discuss issues relevant in my area and how others are dealing with them.

Not only that I’ve been on a number of study tours around number of uk farms to see how they operate first hand. You can’t learn everything on TFF! I was supposed to be going to South America at the end of the month to go round a number of farms to see how they operate and what there policies are, this has however been cancelled for obvious reasons.
All these experiences are open to all levy payers but you have to want to get involved, I think it’s been invaluable to younger farmers.

As always there are areas that could be improved and they could invest money different areas. However if you don’t get involved nothing will change, moaning on a forum won’t alter anything.

Hope that sort of answers your question ?

So, you're blaming the QMS for the rules and regs from govts which killed the small local abattoirs in Scotland and made it impossible for them to update/refurbish or modernise to keep up? Good one :ROFLMAO:
