I am weighing up a few onptions. One of which is getting a grain trailer and blowing feed in. What size trailer ( Dimensions) would I need to get four ton in. Also do you need a special fitting on trailer to blow in? Tia

One other thing, I know it depends on the trailer but how protective are the sheets that go over them, are they ment for a shower or are they the sort of thing you could leave outside?

Four ton will go into a 10x6x6' space roughly. You wouldn't need a very big trailer. You wouldn't need a fitting on it, just chuck the pipe in over one end and tie it so it points the right direction. You'll need to be about when the feed is delivered though just to make sure iit doesn't blow everywhere.

You'll need a tarp of some sort over the top and you'll need some sort of access to get the feed out. Does the trailer have a small grain door at the back? Tbh it's a very tedious way of storing feed. I assume you already have a trailer? If not buy a feed bin. You'lll never regret it.

It's no faff if you have a good quality tarpaulin. We use a 5 tonne trailer with a purpose made tarpaulin which is secured all round by a bungee cord. We drop the trailer down off the tractor for filling and the pipe from the wagon goes up and under the tarp at the rear of the trailer. We secure the pipe with a rope tied onto the back of the trailer. We get 4 tonnes of cobs each time. Don't have any problems with them blowing out. If we get pellets blown then we put a heavy board on top of the tarp at the front of the trailer but we've never had to with rolls.

Great for us as a silo would be no good as sometimes wagons can't get to us in bad weather but with a trailer we can always go down and meet them in the village

Bang on with your size I would say I used to blow some in a trailer about that size.

I had an old curtain side sheet and had it strapped on with loads of straps to keep it watertight just used to poke the blow pipe under the strap across the back and tighten it down slightly to hold while filling.

Have a bin here but it's limited to 1 type of feed at a time. Only use it for ewes rolls to then fill the snacker. Can have 4 types of feed here at any one time (lamb finisher, ewe rolls, beef blend and distillers grains).
Got a 10t silage/grain trailer sitting in the shed. Tie the blower pipe to forks on telescopic and fill.
Then we empty out into Tatties boxes at our leisure to be taken to different sheds

But a feed trailer is a pain in the backside 365 days a year too.
Really wants to be on a tractor for safety, rain gets in through trailer sides even if sheet ok. Have to keep shovelling it to grain chute etc. With tractor on, needs 25feet of room to stand on.
4 ton bin stands on a 7ft square and is easy to bag from.

By the time you've faffed about it would be just as cheap to pay extra for big bags or even 25kg bags.
