'elite' aberfield shearling:scratchhead:

both in easy reach:)

What are you wanting now (asking as it may have changed)? I thought you were ok for terminals, so looking for a ‘maternal’ ram. :scratchhead:

What’s behind the Texel x Lleyn? Is it a pretty Texel crossed with a pretty Lleyn, or something where somebody has selected on something other than prettiness?
Much as I dislike them (or any BFL cross🤐), I’d go with the Aberfield from that choice, as a maternal sire.

Nowt wrong with changing your mind.👍

We all like ‘pretty’, but I’d sooner have something with a bit of thought and selection for commercial traits behind it, rather than something bred on nothing other than being pretty. Hence my question.

The Aberfield does look long in the leg, which may help with your gazelle breeding program…😂

If that's elite I dread to think what the ordinary ones look like

Why so? It’s a maternal ram, so big arses, heads and shoulders aren’t wanted by most sane folk.

Comparing it with a BFL, which it was produced to compete with, I’d much sooner take that one, particularly as it has excelled on commercial trait ebvs to receive that ‘elite’ label.

(and I’m certainly not an Aberfield fan!)

That ram was won in a charity raffle and he did the trick to such an extent, Philip has bought more every year since. Sadly though, I doubt most breeders would have good stock left as most will have sold out unless you could persuade someone to sell something being held for a shearling sale next year or as a breeder.
