BMW X1 for Farm Use?

Currently run a 2010 Hyundai Santa Fe as 'farm vehicle' which has done well though a little "rattlely", quite fancy something a bit neater, nippier and refined with the continued AWD ability to get me out of where i shouldn't have gone now and then. Does anyone have experience of the X1, am thinking 5-7 yrs old - look very good value or perhaps they'll be too soft / expensive to maintain? Only do about 6,000 miles per year and 1/4 of that is a medium grade stone farm track commute between yards which probably tests the suspension a bit depending on if i'm in McRae mode or not. Thanks

I keep looking at vitaras because the farm pickup is normally far away when I want it so my little car has been abused:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:Freelander 2s are looking very cheap at the moment tho don’t no if that’s because there shite or not tho ?

biggest problem with a lot of these soft roaders is no low box or locking diffs

Is the X1 even remotely four wheel drive? I think it's just two pushing tyres and the other two engage now and then if needed (and don't do that great of a job). Forester must be the most capable of these Suv's (or as we call them, city off-roaders) since it did manage to get itself out of frozen snow even when it did bottom out a few times. Uncle took his X5 to frozen snow and blew its gearbox, it cost him 5000€.

what ever happened to all those wide body, fat wheels vitara's .... they must be all driving Q3 or X1 now... Personally I'd go for a subaru forrester.... 2.5t petrol
i'm a landrover man myself but we used to have a subaru estate and that would go where a landrover failed so if you fancy a forester go for it

A lot of BMWs have run flat tyres, which are useless off road.

I found this out to my cost having bought I series X drive which is fitted with run flats. The gain of having 4 wheel drive is virtually pointless when the vehicle is fitted with these tyres.

I have just bought a bmw x3 x drive for £3500. It has permanent 4wd 170bhp 2.0 d 40+mpg nice and comfy, just looking to get some proper grippy winter tyres and wheels. I will keep my small french van for when the bmw needs 'servicing'.

If the x1 is anything like the x3 stay far away, sister and friend had one, cost an arm and a legg for both of them with breakdowns up to 100k, surprisingly my sisters has behaved itself after clocking 100k, but wouldn't have another.

We had an X3, most useless thing in snow even with snow tyres. Wouldn’t use it for any sort of farm work although very reliable albeit a rock hard suspension and very heavy steering.

ive got a set of wheels for an X3 with snow tyres on them, any sensible offer will do.
