Bobcat TL30.70 Won’t Start

Hi,
I have next to no experience with these things. On turning on ignition everything appears to come on normally but on turning key to start, nothing happens but the code ‘49’ comes up on dash with a book symbol (see pic).
Anyone got any ideas?

That's not an error code, it's a service overdue reminder but that won't stop it from starting.

I don't see why it won't crank, could be a wiring issue or faulty starter motor.

If the seat switch was faulty I'm pretty sure it would say "seat" on the screen when you turned the key.

I was speaking to the guy that actually uses it mostly yesterday and apparently our resident mechanic had disconnected the battery before fitting a new starter motor in it just before I got involved (might have been useful to know!) and it fired straight up first time. He switched it off to put the inspection panels back on and ... zip. Back to square one. Current theory is that disconnecting the battery reset the system but whatever fault is preventing starting re-registered on the first engine start on the new starter motor.

Thanks. I had another tinker yesterday and realised as much when I figured out the meaning of the wee symbol that is the 'hour glass'... I think it's going to be going off the island or we fork out for the diagnostic kit...

If it won't crank have you checked to see if the signal wire at the starter solenoid is getting power when the key is held in the start position? If no 12V then the fault is probably with a relay, fuse or safety switch.

I will but that would not really tally with the fact that it started fine first time after the starter motor was replaced (along with disconnecting the battery)...

Turns out Fuse No 1 (of 4 - 25A - 'Starter/Alternator') inside the engine bay front offside inspection hatch (behind the FOS wheel and the 4-way fuse box is just in front of the main fuse) was blown - probs during fitting of the starter motor (which also had a failed due to over-tightening 'coil exciter' terminal that necessitated using the old solenoid on the new motor). Proper lash-up - but at least its working again.

Your mechanic might have crossed wires.

Glad you've got her going.

Is yours the one with the starter motor tucked down behind the engine?
They're a git to get to!
