Bolus sheep or not

We're very iodine/selenium deficient in this area. Bolus all ewes with tracesure bolus pretupping then blood test mid preg and bolus again if necessary. Friend nearby running 1200 blackies turns them all over and paints iodine on inside of their legs twice a year. Hell of a job but seems to work

That sounds like a fun pastime.:scratchhead:
I'm pretty sure Iodine only stays in the sheep for a few weeks after giving, if it's topically or by drench. If there's an ongoing deficiency, it either needs regular treatment/supplementation, or a steady supply (by bolus).

We've been supplying the Mayo iodine pour on for a couple of years. Generally 10ml per ewe when grazing brassica's and 5ml on grass fed (when needed). Recent feedback was raised levels for in excess of 5 weeks (if accurate), xlvets in Ireland have some good data on cattle I believe. 500 doses per 2.5ltr = .12p per ewe on a 5ml dose. Easy to apply, part fleece and apply directly to the skin. In stock, alongside the Mayo range of boluses. We were the first suppliers of their range in the UK and have lots of experience with the Mayo guys. (Sorry for the shameless plug.... but didn't say our company name!)
