Boosting WiFi signal via electric cables around the house?

We have been using Devolo Magic WiFi boxes to boost wi fi signal around our house. Unfortunately they have packed up working, and we have been told that a power surge may have damaged the main box.
I would like to know if their are comparable wi fi boosters that any of you use successfully.
Thanks for any suggestions

We have ubiquiti Wi-Fi mesh thingies. Look like a dome. Swapped them for a big network switch that was too noisy for the house and haven’t had to reboot them or search for networks when roaming the house since. They do need ‘management’ of some sort but seeing as he sells us mobile contracts and broadband that’s no bother.

I use a set of TP link network powerline adapters / homeplugs. Fantastic gadgets.
Plug one in beside router /modem, plug 2nd one (WiFi unit) into any plug socket coming from the same breakers / trip switches.
Gives me WiFi in the sheds, garden etc.
They work better if plugged straight into the wall, they don't like surge protectors, they also don't like circuits where there are loads of stuff plugged in as it creates noise which affects the signal.

Many Thanks for the info.
Would you by any chance know if your TP Link Network Powerline Adapters , have coped with power surges? Thanks

I'd safely say so. I live in a very remote area where the electrical infrastructure is fairly primative. I know of power surges in my area which have damaged cordless phones, set top boxes etc but I have had the homeplugs for a few years no hassle.

I have tried various brands of powerline (aka homeplug) devices, and they always seem great to start with.
But after awhile mine always broke. I have given up on them myself, which is a shame as they are good whilst they working.
I would try to either use ethernet cable or wifi if you can.

I use a TP Link extender. Livebox is in the basement and the extender on next floor up. Very easy plug & play. Now have wifi everywhere as well as outside the house. Bought from Amazon at half price as it was a return item.

I have used the tp link plug in extenders but as said they give up after a while. I have since ran some cat5e cable and installed 2 extra wifi access points which has been a much better option.

I've been using Solwise (1200av) homeplugs for a few years, including a couple of WiFi extending ones. They have become unreliable though, and need switching off & on again every few days.

I'd finally had enough of the earache, and was looking at getting the Devolo Magic 2 system, then got put off by a few of the reviews, so started looking at more traditional Mesh systems. As we already have an Asus router, I bought a couple of Asus mesh routers so that they all link in together. It has made for a lot faster wifi speed all over the house, which has thick walls and a convoluted layout. Well chuffed with it.

I am told there is now a Wifi deadspot in the downstairs loo, but I can live with that.

We got the I.T guy out , that installed our original Devolo boxes and he found one box had gone wrong, so he replaced that one and eventually he got the system up and running again at full strength . Just shows that it makes all the difference if you can get someone who really knows their subject /product .
