Borehole water sample

Got a borehole sample taken and showing slightly high ph, manganese and iron, will it be fine for cattle to drink without causing problems or would it need treated?

l think we are a bit OTT with water, when you see what some people, and animals, have to drink, in poor countries.

Don't know fully but would think it will be fine.
We are on a borehole also. Was told over 20 years ago ours was ok for cattle. But might affect fertility. Was and still 5% or less not in calf.

What about the iron levels, would that be enough to cause problems with plate coolers, pumps and valves etc?

Speak to whisper pumps, they know their stuff and have solutions for most problems.

Will eventually block everything up, we have a treatment plant for iron and i wouldnt want to use the water pre treatment

Yes, he does go through pumps!

We have a similar borehole & before long the water runs orange as the ochre colours the water in the troughs but it never seems to do the cattle any harm.

Manganese and iron at those levels are fairly easy to extract with simple filters.

Tip hypo in once a year cleans it out no problem, there’s a solution rate on the label for drinking water levels

Out of interest how much did it cost to get a water sample done @Suckndiesel ?

We have a hydraulic farm and would be interested in getting a sample taken if it's reasonably priced.

It was 200 euros for the full test, could have done a cheaper test for 135 euros.

The water supplies firm we deal with talked about putting on a couple of media filters to sort the iron, manganese and ph but I assume that was to bring it up to public drinking water spec. Was going to be around £2300 to do that but we hadn’t planned to drink it ourselves , it’s just for cattle
