C’mon Bob, this is après brexit Britain, no one is allowed to leave their parish
Then he does not need a Tesla. The majority of car owners do not have somewhere to park, other than on public property, never mind somewhere to erect a windmill. I believe in finding one`s own solutions and not depending on public institutions to find the answers but in many cases the government must step up to the plate when it comes to national security networks.
Co-operation between nations is a wonderful thing but you only need one player to throw their toys out of the pram and there is a problem which will not be solved by some dumb arsed organisation like the EU.

I'm seriously considering installing a basic system at home which reduces our reliance on the grid/fossil fuels. Not for any ideological reason, simply to ensure we are not exposed to a volatile market and can at least boil a kettle or watch telly without thinking about it.

Can't decide whether solar or wind would be most efficient or effective, plus some form of storage and inverter.

The only 'plate' this government will step up to is likely to be the free lunch supplied by friends chasing lucrative contracts and skirting normal tendering procedures.

The normal tendering procedures are a joke. Most projects are won by submitting unrealistically low tenders which inevitably go over budget at the point of no return and the supplier then demands more cash otherwise cessation of supply.
I have no faith in anything run by government departments and most of them could not run a bath. As for vetting supply tenders, there is no hope, even in the absence of corruption.

Supermarket freezers account for 1% of all UK electricity use. Put lids on them.
HGV's are 2% of road traffic yet account for 22% of emissions. Stop hauling ready made sandwiches 100's of miles.
Have a look at the city skyline in the early hours. Turn the bloody lights out !
Thousands and thousands of jobs in filling every loft with wool insulation.

And so on and so on. If we could just be bothered, if we just applied a tiny bit of intellect to all of this, we could slash consumption and make lives and communities better.
Really surprised to hear that freezers in the UK still don't have lids and doors on them, its been a legal requirement for quite a number of years here. :scratchhead:

I bought an inverter. Run it off the tractor battery and got a plug put onto the central heating to run the pumps. Runs internet and tv as well.
Talking about getting a windmill for the house.

Exactly this(y)why does my childrens school let some out at two oclock some three oclock making me drive twice? even better what about a bus that could drop kids off saving hundreds of car journeys each day. Why are we still racing cars round a track then flying them all round the world to do the same somewhere else?the olympics/world cup etc going to different countries and they build massive new infrastructure for two weeks. i could go on. it makes a few of my farting cows seem somewhat irrelevant.

because that is what “the people” want.
Btw, at the moment, most of “the people” also want to continue to eat meat🤷‍♂️.
Why worry about it? Human race is f**ked anyway🙄

A school bus system such as we have here would save many millions of car trips.

This. The government tendering processes are a total farce. During my brief career with the civil service, this is exactly what happened again and again. Good, reliable local firms outbid by large nationals who either went bust mid way or came begging for extra cash to see the job through. All under the guise of "value for money for the tax payer".

Most of the procurement rules came from Europe (though were seemingly ignored by the French and the Irish), it would be interesting to see if there is any change for the better post Brexit, but I doubt it. Government procurement is an industry in itself, so a lot of jobs for the boys.

A far bigger difference would be made if people just stopped buying Chinese goods!
I agree but its easier said than done, there are few manufactured items which don't rely on the Chinese at some point in their supply chain.

The Chinese really have played a blinder in getting the whole world hooked on their merchandise. I do see western countries waking up to the threat this poses, I just hope its not too late.

It's not just the Chinese playing a blinder, it's idiotic western governments (UK in particular) piling eco taxes onto western manufacturing all in the misleading name of saving the planet.
