Not sure what old Buffoon will announce this afternoon but have a tip from someone on the inner circle that you'd better make the most of the next six weeks, the gov are now in a state of panic as they have been told that the Indian version is past controlling & although it will affect the younger generation the most the government have been warned that this variant will cause many more cases of long covid than previous versions.
Cynically the government rather than admit the stupidity in allowing this Indian variant into the country may have decided for political expedience to allow the opening up of the country to go ahead on Monday & then the intention is to express surprise when in 6 weeks time the already planned country wide lockdown has to be reinstated in July.
Most people with half a brain are fully expecting this lot to ban our summer and then our Xmas again. It was always on the cards. I will never vote blue again.

I am reluctant to give this a racial bent but surely this variant has spread because people came back from India and spread the virus in the densely populated, predominantly Asian areas where it is now circulating, massively helped by the far lower vaccine uptake in those communities. Happy to be told I'm wrong but that's what it looks like to me.

This is the reality, what’s worse is from Monday people from infected areas are free to holiday all over the country with no restrictions or even pathetic gov advice, so much for learning lessons!

Pakistan and Bangladesh were placed on Red list days / weeks before India. Yet India had a higher infection rate. The when India was 'finally' 'reluctantly!' placed on red list the date was put forward several days 'to allow' several flights from India to UK.

You are not being racist - just a keen observationalist. All stinks of international politics. Pakistan and Banglaesh - piddly little countries who UK Government can treat like muck. India - now whoah. Big player and even more so now we are desperate for trade deals. So little ole UK is again battling in the strmy, choppy seas. India, China, US, UK - its a rough, tough place out there!

Good ole Billy.

Pakistan and Bangladesh combined populations of circa 380 millions.

So many blame the government (and I'm not saying their management is spot on) for their own reluctance to follow the guidelines.
If anybody gets struck...it'll their own stupidity in most instances.

That said, fil has managed living/working in the centre of praha

As I've already mentioned, wasn't the 'Indian variant' supposed to be the 'Kent variant' that we supposedly exported in which case it's been here already. Plus, how do they isolate and identify these so called variants so quickly and why is Bill Gates now a fully qualified doctor? It's almost like they are making the whole thing up as they go along. By the way I am a Brain scientist but I do dabble in rocket surgery as well. Moooo

The Kent mutation (which was obviously the frog variant) was brought to Kent by the tractor inner tube cruising and stowaway mob and is now old hat and mutated further.

"Australia has carried out its first repatriation flight from India after ending its controversial travel ban from the Covid-hit country.
The government said 80 people arrived in Darwin on Saturday, and would be quarantined for a fortnight.
Their Qantas flight was originally scheduled to carry 150 people onboard.
But 70 passengers were later barred from travel after testing positive for coronavirus or coming into close contact with others who were.
Australia's strict rules on pre-flight testing meant there was not enough time for the seats to be given to others waiting to return.
Treasurer Josh Frydenberg said there would be more capacity for people to return to Australia on other flights scheduled in May.
"We're following the medical advice and ensuring that we protect Australians here," Mr Frydenberg told reporters. "We've got to maintain our health settings because we know how damaging to the lives and livelihoods of Australians an outbreak here [can be]."
He added that Australia's High Commission was working to help other Australians stranded in India, and at least 9,500 had registered as wanting to return."

How many of the thousands that Boris let in when they knew the infections were widespread have gone on to spread the virus over here, not really surprising Scotland want independence if I were Scottish I would now be rebuilding Hadrian"s wall!

I suspect the Indian variant is what's causing the current higher rates in Glasgow.

The fan boys favourite clown has been waggling his gums after a silence about shortages of fuel.
Today's diversion from Bungling is that he is going to step up productivity for the UK.
Yes the f*** business isolationist prime minister after making trade harder with his dogmatic anti business policies is going to level up by increasing productivity.
Better get the dingys ready to leave, such is his success rate.
