There are drugs showing promise and its high time the bureaucratic bull sh*t that stands in the way of them being tried got thrown out of the window. The government dont need to pump us with anything. Many of us volunteer to take them. They are already in use and side effects well known.
China has also approved a new drug. People are dying and bureaucrats stand in the way
Yes see ivermectin is meant to breakdown the virus.thought it was fake news but vet was here today an they had all been talking about it.

@hoff135

Do you honestly think it's just bureaucracy holding things up? Drug trials are long and drawn out for very good reasons. Do you really want a repeat of the TGN1412* debacle, but on a much larger scale?

*TGN1412 trial AKA "The Elephant Man Trial". A most unpleasant experience for all those that took part in it. Several of the participants ended up having to have various parts of their bodies amputated.

Ivermectin is an already approved drug, just not for covid19. What exactly are we waiting for?

Actually Im bang on the nail.

Plenty of people get hospital treatment every year when they have a serious case of flu which could be life threating.

so how many people out of the 439 as stated by the bbc died from covid and how many from unrelated causes? You seem good at extrapolating thes numbers somehow.

I am no expert, from what I know via my wife to meet American approval, drugs have to be tested on animals, they then have to be tested and proved safe on humans, it can be rather time consuming.

I suspect that a number of politicians will have shares in the company which finds the vaccine and as a result the bureaucracy may be sidelined on this occasion.

Maybe Dominic Cummings brilliant ruse of "herd immunity" that he sold to the PM for a few weeks wasn't such a brilliant idea.....
Mad bad and dangerous to know.

We still dont really have much choice about this
@SilliamWhale What Wuhan is doing is eliminating the disease through quarantine
They are moving to tracking and tracing any reappearance of the virus.
Rinse and repeat.

It means that you don't reach herd immunity but you don't have uncontrolled disease running through an unprotected population.
You use the breathing space to try out all the old drugs that are known to be safe for use in humans to try and find something that gets people better quicker and stops them dying quite so much.

Currently this is their exit strategy.

More bureaucracy....seriously we KNOW the safe dose for this drug. Theres only one way to find out if it works!!!! People are dying on ventilators what the hell is there to lose

A safe dose with reasonable efficacy for it's current use might have low efficacy treating Covid19 at the same dose. There's good reasons that when they use old drugs for new purposes that they have to be trialled and recertified for that specific purpose. Dosage rates are an important part of that work.

I think that this has come as quite a shock to so many people - me included - because we all 'know' Boris, he isn't just another statistic, obviously not a family member or close friend but, still, someone we know pretty well. Based on what we know of others that have been in his situation, his chances seem about even, a pretty bleak thing to have to write.

I don't believe in feigned optimism, or premature eulogising, but Boris - who wasn't my first choice for Conservative Party leader - has bedded in to the role of PM pretty, certainly better than I thought he would, with gravitas replacing buffoonery and seriousness sitting well with his usual light-heartedness. I wonder if many of his critics are now wondering if he hasn't been quite so bad a PM after all.

Let's all hope he makes it and recovers well and soon.

Look I hope he does make it, I like him. But I think at the very least we are talking new PM now.
No, if he pulls through - and I really hope that he does - he'll be fine to undertake work in a month or so, therefore no need for anything other than a bit of deputising.
