I say again they should double (or even treble MP's salaries) BUT

1. Illegal to financially benefit in any other way (professional on-going practice permitted, it's the earnings / conflicts of interest that's the problem)
2. Halve the number of MP's and give a proper exec support staff instead
3. Holidays become 20 days plus public holidays
4. None of the above candidate option on all ballot papers. If NOTB candidate polls most , constant by-election until another candidate is voted in. 10 years of what they would view as Brexit like chaos but my word that would sort the job out
Would they be allowed to be director of a company? That’s the issue no one seems to mention in the media.

There's a lot of good politicians in our country, and much to be proud of in our democracy.

Trouble is with Front bench tories- they're led by a "populist" PM, who's got to where he is because he's a bit of a character.... Much the same with that idiot Rees Mogg.

The rest of the cabinet's first priority on their Job description, was that they were pro Brexit, ruling out alot of great politicians, with some good experience- and pretty much any former front bencher.

The second priority on their job description, was that they don't upstage BJ- so he (or Cummins at least) hand picked ambitious, and by their nature, morally defunct, sub-optimal idiots who can recite a sound bite, and little else.

Meanwhile, the opposition are too busy tearing themselves apart to have any clue about what they can achieve. Raynor just undermines Starmer at any chance she gets, chucking unhelpful insults about, and the BBC love rolling out the likes of that dinosaur John McDonald, and Dianne Abbott, because at least they get a laugh. Abbott was on Newsnight last night claiming a wave machine was considered as govt policy to stop migrants crossing the channel- even Spitting Image wouldn't have thought that up....

We had the chance of Rory Stewart, and Jess Phillips as leaders on opposite sides of the house.. We ended up with this lot...
Hell Rory Stewart looks like a puff of wind would blow him over, he's not exactly my cup of tea & he would hardly make an impressive figure on the world stage, more like a grumpy dwarf

It might be worth you googling Rory Stewart's past experience/roles in that case. He's certainly been in far more pressured situations than I ever will, and I suspect the same goes for most members of this forum.

Some have made comments that he vastly exaggerated his roles, if true it will come out and make him look a fool

What's it they say "jack of all trades master of none" seems appropriate.

Can't say I've seen those comments. Everything I've read about the guy, he's been very understated in his approach to his roles and achievements. Not sure he'd have been made an OBE by the time he was 30, for his work in Iraq, if he was a shirking violet.

Makes little to no odds who the pm is they are just glove puppets for the civil servants who run the country , west minster is just a muppet show to give us numpties something to focus on take the attention away from them who really run the show. .
I actually fear this is true…. Boris is just there to create a diversion ….. it’s like scoot doo sometimes!

yes on the one hand the headline pay for an MP isn't that wonderful, but they also get all their expenses paid for in addition to the salary of over £82k. Highly subsidised meals and drink in the houses of parliament, accommodation and travel costs, office expenses, plus plenty of freebie tickets to events. As to plumbers and lorry drivers earning more, doubt any lorry drivers really get an MP's pay and very few plumbers.
Lastly a friend who was once leader of a district council used to strongly argue that their allowances were far too high, he based this on there never being a shortage of candidates. When you reached the point that no one put their name forward that was the time to up the renumeration. Every major party is inundated with applications to join the candidates list to be an MP, some are there to work for the good of the nation and would do so regardless of the money, most however wouldn't look at the job if the money wasn't ok.
Yes but working in London with even a modest job , you can very easily earn £90k. So we have all these company owners who employ thousands and themselves earn 3-4 million a years. They are being told to be good and pay their taxes and be good employers by people earning poor money who they would never employing themselves as the wages are too low to attract talent. We then wonder they they simply ignore the government! Politicians should be on £100k minimum and the top ones in £500k. They then might actually start to attract some talent rather than poshos with family wealth or people who use it to try to make themselves sirs’ alongside having very good first jobs where their true talent lies….
