Our
Here in North Shropshire we will soon be having a by election after our Tory MP Owen Paterson has had to step down.
I’ve got to say that I’m rather disappointed that in such a true blue area as North Shropshire which I believe hasn’t seen anything other than a Tory MP in over a 100 years can’t put up a local candidate for the Conservative party but instead has opted for a candidate from Birmingham.
There again, as a local farmer who is pushing the new Tory candidate said to me today, the people of North Shropshire would vote for a turnip if you put a blue rosette on it.
With an attitude like that, we get the politicians we deserve

Talking of turnips....
Now’s your chance to be an MP Baldrick.........

currently reading Gyles Brandreth’s latest autobiography where he mentions having to firefight for four philandering MPs when he was a whip ….

Not that that has any relevance really

I find it rather disturbing that there are folk out there, plenty of them, who will literally vote for a candidate solely on the colour rosette they wear.
As I say, we get the politicians we deserve.
I strongly believe that North Shropshire would be better off not getting a conservative MP at this by election, it might make the Conservative party take note and select a good local candidate who would work for the good of the area rather than someone from off who I’m presuming is someone they’d like to slip into a safe seat.
That and the fact that if anyone else got in they’d know they’d have to perform to keep the seat in 3 years time, but what would i know, I’m not a true blue Conservative although one has been around to have a word with me, try to straighten me out as they don’t like some of my comments on the subject on Facebook
Strangely last conservative canvasser to darken my door was 27 years ago, a very nice chap seeking election to the County Council, we had a full and Frank discussion over a number of issues, not a raised voice and yet none have ventured up the drive since?🤔

I suspect there is only one reason they voted Tory last time and it doesn’t sound like your MP is even trying to give them a reason to re elect him.

Pandemic is a once-in-a-century crisis.

How can anyone plan for that?

Without hindsight what would anyone else have done differently.

There's people on TFF who can't cope when it rains for a few days or it's windy.
Boris says that “now is not the time for a referendum on indeppendence” because of covid, so how was it prudent to proceed with brexit?

It is just unfortunate that the current useless cabal were voted in when the UK faces it's two biggest crises in generations.
Just because blue looked the better option at the time
Ah the power of the MSM combined with a lack of analytical skills amongst the men on the Clapham omnibus.😣

At least they know what colour they are voting for.
Plenty will vote on whether they liked their dress, or even their wife's dress.

Does anyone seriously think any politician would have handled the covid crisis better? They might have done things differently, but that doesn't mean it would have been better.

IMO we should have had a total ban on people entering the Country as soon as the situation arose, but any politician that did that would have been (metaphorically) lynched.

Even now, any new restriction on international travel are met with howls of anguish from the travel industry and the public.

Tories have been dogged with sleeze and incompetence for as long as I can remember. But as far as I know this does not cost me money.....
Mumblings from Labour before the last election included Mansion tax, land tax, garden tax.....
That would cost me money.
Probably vote Tory again next time. Hopefully with a more presentable candidate than Boris. What's the alternative ? Starmer ? No thanks.

That’s if Tory voters feel inclined to come out & vote, I have a feeling a lot will decide to not bother.

The country needs a change, as obviously the system we have now is not fit for purpose. We lurch from crisis to crisis and seemingly the TAX paying public are at the bottom of the sh!t heap the Government creates. Sack the f**king lot of them ..Lords as well.

The tories will cost you plenty when Carrie enacts her green dreams.

Bad enough, but what’s the alternative? They’re all vying to be greener/more progressive than the next.
