Bosis’ leaked food strategy document; worse than half-baked

Since 1990 our population has multiplied by 146%
Our per head consumption of meat has multiplied 141%
Per head consumption of poultry has almost quadrupled !

The world has the same surface area but more people demanding more of everything

Something has to give

I predict
  • less cereal fed meat ---in 50 years there won't be a recognisable poultry or pork industry
  • More ''fermented/bio-produced '' food stuffs including synthetic steaks that will taste as good as or better than the real thing
  • A reduced red meat industry which will be produced almost entirely on grass/forage within arable systems
  • A large reduction in whinging farmers (or farmers of any type)
At the same time humans will fight for what is available (we've always done that)

I won't be around to see most of this & maybe that's a good thing
In the shorter term Boris probably wont be around long enough to implement a food policy either so i'm not too worried about any of his hare-brained ideas

So they’re going to change the planning rules in order to release more land for fruit and veg production.
What are they suggesting, demolishing housing estates?

The whole thing appears to be complete nonesense, but what are the political alternatives?
If they want to help people, tell them the truth, instead of telling them what you want them to hear.

People want to build their cities on the best land available, want to have lawns instead of cultivating veges, then they will go hungry at some stage.
Can't always be farming at fault for decadence and lack of foresight.

Who?

im not wanting to get bogged down in the meat thing, but as a veg and potato producer I just don’t see where the extra demand for my produce is.
You do realise that once they’re feeding everyone on gloop from the Frankenstein vat instead of meat then the next logical step is to do the same with fruit and veg? Your land is next for tree-planting, beavers, wolves, mega-"food" factories and security-fenced housing estates. Them wolves are gonna get hungry if there‘s no lambs to eat…..

Surely there should be a differentiation between easily mechanised carb rich root veg and more delicate gut enhancing fibrous leafy veg 🤔

Never was anything wrong with a mixed, balanced diet though.
It isn’t actually the carb rich root veg where the problem lies with human nutrition, it’s the wheat, sugar, seed oils and the processing of it all before it gets to humans. Tatties are proper food, it’s what messrs McD and McCain do to them that brings the problems.

Oh I know, it would be a very easy sell to convince people away from produce grown in bacterial infested “dirt” towards sanitised vertical farms.

We’re all in it together.

Dimbleby:
“Careful livestock farming can be a boon to the environment, but our current appetite for meat is unsustainable: 85% of farmland is used to feed livestock. We need some of that land back.”

To grow what?

even more veg to be disced in coz no one wants it? More potatoes to be sent for stock feed? More berries to be left to rot coz there’s not enough pickers? I don’t understand what alternative FOOD sources he wants grown.

Unless of course it’s just a smokescreen to free up land for greenwashing……. But they wouldn’t do that would they?🤔

bunch of c-units.
United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization says 26 percent of the earth’s terrestrial surface is used for livestock grazing.

and

86% of livestock feed is inedible by humans. lies, damned lies and statistics
