Bottom dump grain trailers

Been watching a few harvest videos on YouTube, of harvest in the states and Canada.. bottom dump trailers are pretty much all you see...

Why are they not used more here??
No hydraulics, no tip height to worry about, lighter build..
admittantly you need a pit to dump into but that seems a small price to pay for all the benefits they bring ...

Thoughts ???

-Majority of farmers don't haul there grain with trucks?
-Lot of UK yards too small to build large, drive through intake pits suitable for an artic lorry.
-Majority of UK grain stored in sheds rather than silos so no need for a pit and elevators.

smaller farmers further East will have “gravity” trailers for behind tractors aswell. Unload into an auger that takes it to the back of the shed.

they also very rarely use big bags for seed and fertilizer in the states. Which has to be a plus. Most dangerous job there is on a farm standing under one of them.

Surely it's a good way to increase trailer payload ?? No tip gear, lighter construction..

In these days when agricultural trailer weights are so important, it must be worth looking into ?

I have been watching those US farmers too (Millenial Farmer etc) and wondered about the same thing.

To have a bottom dump trailer you have quite a lot of 'trailer' which doesn't actually hold grain - fine if you have big yards and big, deserted roads.

Also the bottom dump trailer wouldn't be very handy for any other job around the farm.

The bins look like a good idea, ventilated floor, unloading auger and the rest, I am not sure what the local planners would think of a set of 5 of them say with a 'leg' as they call an elevator, nearly twice as high in the middle of them.

Grain bins are rubbish places to hold wedding receptions and village dances, they are very echoey and difficult to access in long dresses.

Having done a harvest in the US, the hgv/semi bottom dump trailers are great, the tractor towed ones are down right bloody scary to tow on anything but flat ground, they have no brakes, CogG was high, had crappy small wheels and when pulling them with a 2wd 180/200hp tractor they would ‘boss’ it down hill as they would try to overtake the tractors (if you were pulling more than one)

Picture for illustration purposes only, was nog the ones i used behind a big 2wd deere
