bowels coming through navels

In 40 years of lambing, I've had two lambs with bowels through the navel. Both singles lambed by the ewe itselfs.

Had two more today, One a triplet, one a twin think I lambed them, maybe one leg back not sure. Could I have caused it?

Also known over enthusatic ewes pull navels out when cleaning lambs.

It is called a 'hernia'. Very common. Your cases today may or may not constitute a pattern for the season, you'll have to wait and see. It could be congenital, or should I say 'inherited', which is probably the correct term. It is certainly congenital, but is it inherited? If you have a new ram, that could be the problem, if indeed there is a problem.
