Bowser air vent

There is probably a simple solution but I am strugggling to find it. I have converted an on vacuum tanker into a bowser for water and fertiliser, pump replaced with petrol centrifugal pump. What I want is an air vent that will prevent over filling or surge spillage. One idea was fitting a sprayer tank lid but thought there would be a simpler way. Any ideas? Hold at top is a 105cm square

Usually find a 6" tube with sponge wedged inside does a good job, can still breathe but surge is dampened down.
Can get you some Enduramaxx baffle balls, but they are not cheap.....

We just have a 2" pipe onto a fitting straight out of the top of the tank. The pipe rises up a couple of feet then loop down and runs down the side of the tank to between the chassis rails.

The end is pointed so that in the event of an overfill the excess fert is not fired all over the axles/brakes/chassis and more importantly the operator.

I assume it originally had a ball in a cage that would float up a seal when full

No.
If you are using a plastic tank I think something would give (probably the tank lid) if the vent sealed when full.

could you not use a shut off valve with a ball in it like whats used on a slurry tanker.

We had a problem with our bowser sloshing water/ fert out of the breather so we have piped the breather into the induction hopper so we can blow it back into the main tank .
