anyone doing bqp pigs, with a new shed?

If so please could i come and see how you do it, and see the pros and cons, as at the moment i have only spoke to them and would like to hear both sides. Pm if you like.

TIA

Yes spoke to mark, and going to see some near me. But jut want as many views as possible. Also as much financial realities as possible.

The main downside for us was the cost of the straw, but I don't expect it will be a problem for yourself, I can't understand why more people don't do it, especially as the building is a good size for other things if it doesn't work out.

Make sure that you budget for the shed being a bit multi-purpose.

For those of you who haven't dabbled in pigs before remember that when pigs lose money they do it professionally, even big operations can go out of business extremely quickly and spectacularly.

Many have done this in the past leaving a lot of debt about.

Brexit and free trade may just kill off the rest of the very diminished British pig industry - everyone needs somewhere to dump pigmeat in the bad times.

Just saying really.

Either muck or money. Been there on a much much smaller scale

I was with someone I know a few weeks ago and he does BQP and loves it.He was a complete new build ( to get a house ) he says he gets a cheque every month and the muck for his arable. He has tried to get planning for two or three more new sheds but the council said no due to smell so he has shelved the idea for now.

a question re planning:
with smell nuisance in mind, if one was to apply for a shed suitable for the above as a bare general purpose shed with intended use for machinery and livestock therefore getting planning without too much trouble, and then subsequently fit it out with all the equipment to make it suitable for pig finishing?? Would that be the easiest way to go about it?
TIA

Nope. very risky. 400m rule means you're likely to get a restriction slapped on a GP building esp mono gastrics
