Landlords have offered to buy 40l of asulox to do a site if I apply it with our 12m sprayer ......happy days.

Had excellent results with lance &rain drop nozzle, 8/10m passes, so going to add 50m of 3/4" hose to the rig to get at the next pass of bracken below the lot I did with 50m of 1/2" hose last year.

Have you started yet?.......another week maybe until they're fit?

Exactly how late is too late?

Exactly how should the plant look for optimum effectiveness of the asulox?

Is it worth bothering once it's dying back or is that too late?

Done a bit but again waiting on spray to be delivered but having never used asulox not sure exactly when is the perfect point to get it on so it's slightly trial and error for me..

Your problem is that you are supposed to use it this year or send it back- "Asulox® can be bought between 1st July & 14th September. It can be applied from 1st July until 31st October. It is a requirement of the approval that any unused product (FULL CONTAINERS) is returned to manufacturer by the 31st October"
I have used it on the first week of September in the past; the kill rate will not be as good but there will be less to spray next year.

Trouble with getting a poor kill with asulox is that the following year, the regrowth won't be enough to really justify another dose of asulox at the price it is now.
And equally the regrowth won't be enough to put round-up on without killing all the fresh grass that's filled the gaps.

Round up as the first spray is my preference now, only use asulox on ground that I have to......&someone else is paying.

Follow up treatment with a weed wiper would be the ideal......if I ever get one/ make one

Cheers for that, guess I'm not so worried now that I'm throwing money away. No probs with using it up soon as it should be here next week and will be out the first decent day we get.

Done a fair bit with a wiper and round up but never seems to kill everything but certainly worth doing. Got a lot to do and as it's so slow with the wiper I thought I'd give asulox a go with the tractor on the fern creeping in the headlands of a few fields and some total covered mountain.

What I've got left is patchy with grass so don't want to use round up but the fern is starting to turn so was a little concerned about timing with the asulox.

Killing bracken is abit of a art......&a complete lottery!

We've had 90%+ kills with asulox in iffy conditions , yet other times in ideal conditions it's been more like 70% kill,
Same with round up.

There's often no pattern to it, just got to have a bash

Follow up treatment of some sort is essential

I've had absolute failures as well. No question of rain either. I believe it is either humidity or pressure, but what the actual mechanism is, haven't a clue. Haven't had one since starting with Warrior if that is a clue.

The optimum time is when the fronds are full unfurled, but before the plants starts to go a darker green or 'bronze over', this is the beginning of senescence.
The target timing is to ensure that the chemical is translocated down into the roots. if done too early all the nutrient movement is up the plant, and if done too late, a lot of the movement has stopped.

The main thing to remember with Asulox is that you may not see an effect immediately (in a few weeks) like you might with roundup. But the following spring when regrowth occurs, you will hopefully find that the treated areas have considerably less regrowth than areas not sprayed or potentially areas treated with roundup

Thank you for that, very interesting. Looks like it's next year I need to concentrate completely wiping it out then.

On another note what's a safe time period before drilling new grass seed into it after asulox and will the drill damaging the fern reduce effectiveness?
