Evening all,

First of all, It was the sender at fault in my Leyland fuel tank so following your advice I fitted a new one and now I have a working fuel gauge:)

Next question, how do I replace the seals in my Leyland 272 brake and clutch slave cylinders, it has been stood in a shed for a long time (years} before I bought it and after a few days use they have started to leak, also any tips for bleeding them please. Old school farmer.

Remove the cylinders. Remover the rubber boot/bellows to reveal a circlip. Take that out and it will release the piston. Remove the opt seal, clean everything up, replace the seal, get DOT 4 all over everything and reassemble. It’s a doddle.

Just make sure the bores of the housings are clean, too. You can clean them up if they are scored or have a wear ridge but pattern Girling masters are available for buttons, to I’d just swap them whole if there was damage.

Also, just bleed in the usual way - open bleed nipple on the slave, pedal down. Close nipple, pedal up. Repeat until it runs clear.
Even better, use a vacuum bleeder.
Finally got round to replying, sorry it has taken me so long, farming gets in the way!!.
Abacus and smcapstick ,Thankyou so much for your advice on repairing my clutch and brake cylinders, going to have a go at them today, both poring fluid out.

There is no Mineral DOT brake fluid. Mineral brake fluid is a thin hydraukic oil often dyed green and called LHM but some use a thin 10w hyd oil and some use ATF like CAT

Any brake oil with a DOT is synthetic

Some seal kits lack a sachet of rubber grease to pack inside the rubber boot and many replacement cylinders are devoid of any which leads to quite a short life. A 500g pot is a good investment to keep moisture and dirt out of your cylinders.
