First big ewe sale next week in these parts.

With the way lamb prices are, both store and suck, what are people's thoughts on ewe prices?

Are we going to see a flood of buyers?

2 big sales at least already held down here and at both prices were only slightly higher than last year.

From what im hearing out and about quite a few people are looking to give up lambing ( due to age/ workloads etc ) and buy in store lambs or couples instead.

I was at the Dorset sale Exeter in May and prices were good, but those reducing numbers were doing so as many could make numbers stack up. A lot of them must be kicking themselves given suck lamb prices now, lot of them were selling fit lambs at £80 in March.

Hopefully push up the price of couples next spring!

I am agreeing with you again. There will be a demand for breeding sheep but only at a similar price to where they have been.
The majority of sheep farmers have a very disappointing couple of years and the better prices have only happened in the last few weeks. There were a lot of store lamb producers who would have lost money or barely covered their costs last Autumn and Winter.
It is clear that many older farmers are giving up lambing and the numbers of ewes are slightly declining. In this area when an old farmer packs up keeping ewes then initially he looks at keeping ewe lambs to run through. The larger sheep farmers are not increasing their numbers due to the concerns over Brexit and finding sufficient staff to help with sheep.

So I concur with GUTH that breeding ewes will be a similar trade to last year.

Sorry
Part one
Lambs £100 replacements should be £150
Part 2 no one wants the work of lambing sheep so run dry ewe lambs=over supply of replacements, lack of demand so replacements £125

Around me there's lots of estates run dry ewe lambs. Tractor drivers can move electric fencing/looker stock. Contractors are used to drench and vaccinate etc.
