Breeding Sheep With Myomax

here's an example of what i was trying to get across ---the graph shows a steady increase in fat/muscle weights across a nine year period. The only time the progress slowed (went backwards) was when they used Myomax carrying rams ---that were inferior for muscle/fat/growth
what did they do ---kill the Myomax sons/daughters and continue selecting on measurements

Why would they kill the MyoMAX carriers? Why not just continue selecting on measurements as well as keeping the MyoMAX carriers?:scratchhead:

Because the Myomax carriers were such poor performers ---- all the other genetics the original myomax carriers brought were so bad that the offspring were all at the bottom of the tree performance wise

So they were cr*p sheep that just happened top carry MyoMAX then?

I agree, I'd never use a ram just because he carried MyoMAX, it would have to be in addition to something else I was after. I still have a stock ram that is a non-carrier, used for his performance.(y)

Would they have been maternal sheep ? @Tim W , as selecting terminal traits from a maternal breed is only going to lead to disappointment .

Almost all of my commercial flock will be double carriers now. It certainly hasn't effected their performance or lambing ease.

Plenty of MyoMAX lleyns about too IIRC.

I seem to remember that @easyram1 has introgressed MyoMAX into a lot of his NZ sheep, which he is selling on the basis of their functionality.

@neilo ---you are just so eloquent !
I have used lots of long words & tiresome explanations and then you just nail it -----''crap sheep that happen to carry Myomax are still crap sheep'' :D
