Is it really called "SODEM"😋
This is a co-op of Farmer owned co-ops.
You could do it in the uk, but you'd have to co-operate with other farmers!

Throughput!
It keeps the plant running full chat. We are friends with a board member who has a lot of their own sheep, it's a double edged sword, keeps the plant full on but importing keeps the French price down. They had 9 Euros 20 a kilo for Christmas lambs.👍

Well what your saying is French lamb could be dearer still if live exports from the UK
were stopped?
Surely that would make our chilled lamb carcasses more sought after.
I am not against live exports as long as to a humane slaughterhouse
but I'm interested if there is real economic benefits to it or not.

You'd think.
Never under estimate the French urge to " buy French"
What price uk lamb into the Christmas trade?

My understanding is that all our abattoirs work to EU specification ,they had to upgrade to get to this spec. I have a friend who worked in abattoirs in Holland and France ,he readily acknowledges that they work to higher standards than this country.

The tracking of parcel force is appalling when you are sending samples on a customer service basis - we expect a package to France to be fully traceable and delivered next day (or by 13:00 on occasion) which is what happens with a dedicated express carrier account manager.
We are not looking for the cheapest - we use what we find to be most reliable and where we can contact a UK account manager by phone within minutes of a discrepancy.

We have on occasions done Sameday deliveries from Yorkshire to Paris in a dedicated van - we currently will not entertain this type of job.

Co ops, theyve never really thriven long term here, which is a great pity imo and begs the question why?

Subs mean they’re not necessary. Individual greed runs counter to the philosophy of the co op.
funnily enough ive got one ordered atm they wont even state a possible delivery time
i new that before ordering tho tbf but they do a good choice of stuff imo. itll come....eventually...

but theres subs in France...

theyve got a different mentality towards it,
a lot that i can think of in this country have failed for financial reasons iirc they just havnt lasted even if started with good intention

EU farmers receive the same subs that we have been getting, yet there are many successful co-ops operating there. Subs don’t prevent co-operation, greed does.
thats a bit harsh surely how about
poor policy/financial /business development direction? ie wrong people having too much influence taking them in the wrong direction ?

The french are not in competition against each other for land as the safer decides who gets it.
Uk farmers have suffered for centuries under the malign influence of estate factors who delight in pitting one family against another
in the fight for land, hence no one trusts their neighbour entirely.
Landlords dont have so much power now, but the mindset lives on.
Hence few co ops

mind you in france there are a lot of rules to become a farmer (proper access to subs ) and you used to have to apply to local mayor to take on extra land , its a lot more industry inclusive
