Hmmmm, I have dealt with Chinese companies to buy agricultural and meat processing equipment. Most so called UK made equipment is already fitted with Chinese parts.
As someone who has visited China on a few occassions, trust me they are far cheaper, harder working and more ambitious as a country in general. They also employ large amounts of immigrant labour to further reduce costs.
Whereas as here, the generous benefits system does not encourage ambition and strict regulation hinders company growth.
We have no chance of competing with them. That is a fact sir.
Lots of countries do lots of things
Taiwan & USA do the best microchips & best electronics
Japan is a bit strange as their home market is totally different and not necessarily linked to worldwide markets, nor is their culture. I can't sit here and point to one thing they excel in, perhaps robotics but the USA also gives them a run for their money.
China is certainly up & coming, we are yet to see technology break throughs on their own part. However China has the reputation of being cheap, low quality ... we are seeing the same route Taiwan, Hong Kong, Japan went through before they became dominant.
USA is in the forefront of a lot of technology, should be self evident in all the technology fields. All the major IT companies are dominated by USA tech and are restricted in China. That's driven by defence spending BTW
The UK ? Certainly invented a lot of technology such as ARM chips which are in most mobile phones, internet, computers, jet engines and recently hyper rocket engines ... very large break throughs that were implemented by other countries.
I think we can compete and quite easily compete if the regulations, taxes & policies were there to support innovation, employment, growth & productivity.
I'll point you what should be obvious ... the environmental sector produces nothing of any value, yet it has grown and is funded by the UK via the EU. Again IMHO this is being done specifically to weaken the West. There is no effort to apply the same regulations & taxes on imports.
The benefits system ? hmmm. Difficult subject .. I've seen young families mixed with drug users, that's wrong, those families should be helped not mixed with the worst. But I've also seen drug users destroy state paid furnishings, up sticks & move to another flat & do exactly the same. I've seen single mothers not even bothering to teach their young to talk. I've see regularly drug users selling drugs in their state paid residences. I've even phoned the police on said drug users ... nothings done.
It's state policy, without people actually do something about it, it's here to stay. I'll cruelly point out it benefits some people to have our young on drugs in many ways ... just on a job competition level if nothing else. But IMHO this is being done deliberately to weaken our cultural ties, yes we are a weak culture & it's being done on purpose all across the Western world. Make no mistake the destruction of Christianity within the UK has also been done on purpose. Do you see the same attempt at weakening Islam ? Quite the reverse. BTW I am not religious.
So I'll go finally back to what you said, we cannot compete.
I'll point out that humans don't produce the cheapest products, machines do, in fact the industrial revolution started this process many years ago ... electronic components for the best quality & price are done on production lines. Electronic boards are manufactured using robotics & soldered in free flow ovens. Plastics are formed by injected moulding machines. You know cars, lorries etc are all going the same way .. well supposedly going the same way.
So anyone can compete ... if the raw materials, regulation & energy is cheap enough.
BTW the new Land Rover factory is £1+ Billion and it's being built in Slovakia
BTW Taiwan is currently investing £20 Billion in new factories to produce computer chips at 3 nano metres ... current best tech is around 14+nm (some says its really 24nm)
I have to ask who put in your mind that you cannot compete ? It's been put in there so you give up. Someone has to succeed ... if people won't even TRY ? There is not even a battle. As I say this thought has been put in peoples minds on purpose, this is no mistake. We now have the most expensive energy in Europe ... this is no mistake, this is policy.
