I think Spanish gas has doubled in price over the year, most of its imported gas coming from Algeria. However, it is also an exporter of gas mostly to Portugal and Japan. Unemployment is currently at 6.8% average across the EU.
I believe the Spanish government is subbing the gas price. Heard this from a Spanish teacher so I'd tend to believe them.

That cannot be correct, unemployment must be at least 125% with gas prices unaffordable to the foreigners, the only ones able to afford anything in Spain would be be the ex-pat Brits.

Dear Henarar, genuinely glad to hear you're fine, and I hope all things near and dear to you are as well.
I wish I could share your outlook, but I fear our nation has isolated itself, and seems utterly divided without any coherent leadership. My point was that if someone such as Dan who seems more eloquent than you ( no offence ) or I thinks it will take so long for the UK to stabilise I fear for the future.
I think the gent overseas that you refer to feels more sad than angry about it as well?
they seem to come across as bitter and interfering

It’s stupidity that’s trashing Britain. The government’s forecourts first policy is the latest example. Pandering to moronic daily Mail readers instead of keeping businesses moving.

They are the people who keep them in power. And the populist media moguls makes sure the blame is never attributed to the government.

You're having a laugh aren't you!
the brexit deal asked for all fishing boats over 40' to have digitalised logs.
Most had them.
The uk then asked all size boats to not only supply the digitalised logs but backdated it to 2 years before the vote!.
All logs from 2014 onward in digital form or you don't get a licence.
For small family day boats this is mega money, they've put in the hardware but it's megabucks to convert written logs into the format required.
Its the uk/ Jersey looking for a fight. They'll get one.
Waiting for the cables from Normandie to Jersey to get a technical fault ( Fired)
hey ho stops you worrying about petrol :)
As of September 2020 only 42% of EU registered vessels complied with the 2012 EU directive stating that all over 12m boats should carry the necessary recording equipment which would have qualified them to receive a DEFRA licence after Brexit to fish in UK waters. Spain was the biggest transgressor and France still had 25% non compliant vessels. The catch by under 12m French boats may have some significance in Boulogne but in the grand scheme of things it is not worth arguing about. The non compliance with an eight year old directive is not surprising but that is the EU. Now the noncompliant vessel owners are complaining because they do not have the records demanded.

Ah well if that's true then the individual boat owners have to shoulder the blame. But not the EU. They issue directives voted through by individual governments who then go home and implement them. See numerous posts on DEFRA gold plating, .
Bearing in mind the " EFFing crisis" being reported in the uk press , be nice if you want to stay want to stay warm and fed. What's a few fishing licenses between friends😁

Brexit i spect
Seems like an accurate enough report of the state the world is in.
My dealings with China recently got notice to forward any manufacturing requirement immediately as their company have been given official notice of power outage from Ist of NOV 21 on a regular basis until June 22.. We have seen nothing yet in the line of supply shortages if this is fact.
The other side of this may be that China or the company I deal with may just be using the situation to pre fill the order book before end of year?

Also Brexit:

Power shortages in China hit homes and factories prompting global supply fears

Factories were closed to avoid exceeding limits on energy use imposed by Beijing to promote efficiency

Are we to applaud Beijing for cleaning up their act or is there an ulterior motive ? Shares in iron ore suppliers have fallen sharply because the Chinese are buying scrap instead of ore because of the lower carbon derived energy requirement. Of course the scrap and the steel stock will still have to come from somewhere and the impact on miners like Rio Tinto are ultimately short lived. Apart from Australia the other major ore producer is Brazil and they are big mates of the Chinese but the government is a basket case. The whole situation is dangerous.

China is out to be dominant on the world stage.

Given the population increase in China, I'm somewhat concerned that China will be looking at conquest in a decade or two.
