Brexit is destroying Britain

Again, for the hard of reading...
By comparison, the UK can only hold enough gas to meet a few days of demand. That is in large part because of a decision taken in 2017 to close Centrica's Rough storage facility, in the North Sea, which provided 70 per cent of the UK's gas storage capacity for more than 30 years.
Which is now being reopened and can be done fairly quickly unlike replacing the nuclear plants Germany shut down. Which is more likely to be a problem

It was closed as the government would not pay the refurbishment costs which ran into millions.
Can they fill it with gas without doing the work?
If so, why did they shut it?

Because it wasnt needed, it was shut because the company running it wanted paying when it wasnt being used, glad to see as usual you havent answered the question which was more stupid, shutting a gas storage facility or all nuclear plants , the gas storage will be back by sept how many nuclear plants by then ? Still being good Europeans france will share the blackouts

More whataboutery. However I have been consistently critical of Germany's decision to shut those plants.

There is a gas storage facility in Cheshire, they use the old brine fields, not sure how much it will hold but it is fairly recent.

well that certainly seem like a gas storage facilty
If you care to go back to post 1177, there is a link to document giving numbers on relative storage capacity in UK and EU as a whole. The UK has very little storage compared to EU as a whole in percentage terms of national total usage, having mad3 decision to rely on daily supplies of LNG and Norwegian gas. And in summer (now) exports gas due to lower d3mand than consumption. So UK is vulnerable to gas shortage this coming winter if Norway reduces supply. And is also more exposed to spot market price as cannot store any quantity during summer when prices are lower. Commercial decision a few years ago by gas supply companies. Maybe shows a more relaxed attitude by government that supply would always be readily available at competitive prices. Maybe similar to policy on raw materials for food. Looks as though maybe interesting times ahead. I picked up on radio yesterday that even if the Rough storage facility is reopened it will not be in time to collect cheaper gas this summer. Fun ahead.

Europe as a whole (EU plus UK) has roughly 105 bcm of gas storage capacity, which equates to 22 per cent of annual consumption. By contrast, the UK has just 0.9 bcm of gas storage relative to around 80 bcm of annual demand.

Yes, but UK has taken back control, and everybody needs it, more than it needs them. So there…

I should worry about your gas supply this winter, good old peasant seems to think norway will cut supplies to us, perhaps the eu need to find how where the gas you import gets to you, of course Germany will cut you loose so they can keep their lights on
